Don't know about MSN or Yahoo but Earthlink has toll free numbers most everywhere in the US. Once you sign up for them as your ISP and download their dialer it's simple matter to flip to the state you're in and click the closest city to get online. They also include email service with the $20/ month price. You can also use their service at home.

There are so many variables, that it is hard to do in a thread. Some motels, you dial 9 to get out some 8, some, I don't know what. Then there is the matter of the number to dial. Do you hve a local number for where you are going? You can get one in advance. Who are yoou using for an ISP? Do you have / use 800 number access.

All of this before you get to the computer. Give me some guide lines on the above and I'll try to make you up an e-mail.

Something to be aware of is the use of digital phone lines in the motel room. Your laptop's modem will probably be analog and if you try to plug the modem into a digital line, you may (will?) fry your modem.

I don't know the part number, but I believe IBM makes a tester so you know what type of line is available. Other companies may also make testers or converters.

Have fun!
