Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Injection pump question

As my truck was built in St. Louis, I am curious if the trip computer is calibrated to imperial mpg for trucks coming to Canada. I'm getting 17(according to the comp) on the highway at 65 mph loaded @ around 13000 gvwr. (welding truck)

The computer has always been within . 2 when figuring mpg. Thanks.

Imperial Gallons?

Doesn't your speedometer read in kilometers? I thought you guys were on the metric system. Imperial gallons? I thought those went away along time ago. If your speedo is in miles, I'd bet your fuel is figured in gallons and not imperial ones. Besides, don't you fill up in liters?

From what I've seen,{ it looks like to me at least} it is a based on a US gal. The Can side is the Litre to 100 km crap.

After computing the milage by hand with my mods and the pump wire tap, I'm pretty close if I pretend that it is reading a CAN gl.

The trip computer must be doing the "Imperial Gallons" math. Mine seems to be pretty close when I calculate out mileage in imperial gallons.

Never could get used to the Km per 100 litres or is it Litres per 100 kilometers??

Miles per gallon still makes more sense to me :)

Fred

having grown up with the metric system, your mpg thing is kinda hard for me to grasp. but i still understand gallons [us style]. i think the imperal gallon is pretty much useless. i just think it's silly if i walk through wallyworld or somewhere that sells oil. all the brands here in canada are in 1 liter containers, except penzoil. they have the 946ml contailers. they are pushing us style quarts... no offence to anyone that likes penzoil, but their oil sucks. it smell like crap going in and coming out. i'd rather do a gear oil change than deal with penzoil

Pretty sure mine reads in US gallons as opposed to Imperial. And I'm with you about the mpg thing over L/100 km-what a stupid way to measure fuel economy!

Jason

... yeah. . i agree with that. the metric system wants to be different. i like the measuring system they have where it is all decimals; real easy to use. but that being said, i use fractional us system at work. i would hate to have a tape measure that had metric on it. i refuse to buy them if i have the option for fractional only. 13 5/8" is so much easier to say and remember when making a cut for something than 346. 075mm [edited. man, i jumbled up some numbers there bad. . :( ]

BUT... .

if i were machining something real accurate, or had to be meauring things with micrometers all the time, then i would like to go to metric. 0. 001mm is more accurate than 0. 0001"

Yeahbut, Nick, thirteen and five-eighths inches is 13. 625". That's 346mm. It's actually 346. 075mm, but unless you are machining unobtanium or something else that really requires extreme accuracy, it doesn't matter, 346mm is close enough for any house I'm going to build.

I agree that L/100km is a joke; must have been some of that Keebec influence. The Fr... ench have always had their own way of doing things. Kinda like the You-alls when they invented US gallons just to be different from British Imperial gallons. :D

The cost of converting the non-metric world is going to be in the trillions. That's why the concept is not popular in North America.

BTW, I still cut my 2X4s to 96" ;)

IS it true, that instead of various warning lights and symbols in the Canadian trucks, when a fault occurs, a big red "EH?" appears on the panel?

:p :D :D

Canadian RAMs

:D Good one Gary! :D

Can we have someone talk to DC about that and get them to change the Check Engine to "Check Engine EH!?" for the Canadian Trucks. :D

Oo. Oo.

Fred

Boy Howdy, I think we could get a few more miles (or is it keilmeters) out of this thread. But was it not the Imperial Storm Troopers theat sucked gas in a galaxy far far away. :D But I am curious, what does the Canadian trucks have for speed. km or miles? Anyone?

The oil pressure is in some astronomical units called Kilopascals (I think)

Anybody got a spare American dash they want to sell?? I'm serious, eh!!

At least my pillar gauges will be in degrees F and PSI. Maybe I'll get a dash pod for speedo in MPH, oil pressure in PSI and water temp in F:) .
