2001 HO. Recently with trailer in tow went down into steep dip. Overran the cruise by about 10mph. When starting up the other side experienced severe jerking accompanied by blue smoke. I thought at first is was a fuel problem but on turning engine off and back on it performed perfectly for some time. I then suspected it was a computer problem or a cruise control problem. However,it did the same thing again yesterday with no load attached. I still suspect a computer problem since it resets with switching the engine off. Anyone have any insight as to the problem and what the fix should be?

Also, I am leaving on a snowbird tour in a few days and will not have time to get it services locally. does anyone have a recommended shop in the Mesa, Apache Junction area of Phoenix?

JCrawford,

When it went into jerking sequence the second time was it in cruise, as it was the first time.

Not familiar with how cruise works with an all electronic system?

(The 12 valves use vacuum and electronics).

I would check to see if pcm/ecm set any codes that should tell you if it is electronic.

Depending how steep/long the dip was and how heavy the trailer cruise should be able to hold truck/trailer at steady speed.

What was the tack reading?

Thank all of you that thought about this problem. Here is the rest of the story. I was able to get the truck in today at my local dealer ( Auge's, Belen, NM). They were able to take it right in. They found it was the infamous transfer pump going out. It was producing no pressure at 2500 RPM. They did not have any explanation why it seemed to reset when the key was turned off and back on. Hopefully, the new pump will solve the problem. I have to give Auge's an A for doing the whole thing in less than half a day with no appointment. I guess these pumps have been such a problem that they keep them in stock!
