Ok. .

Here is whats going on and while I am no genius I am lost here for answers. .

Last week(Friday)my cable company did some upgrades or changes to their internet service and the only reason I knew it was the lack of service for about 4 hours Friday. When it came back up I have had a terrible time with some of the websites and forums I frequent, which include my clubs site/forums. I called them and they told me they would look into it which they did and I recieved a call back late that day saying it was ok. Well all is not ok and I still get the "forbidden 404" entry on my screen on alot of my forums sites and now I am at a loss. I made no changes to my system or its firewall/antivirus software and can not figure out what to do now. I have disabled the Norton and tried,no luck, then unplugged the modem like they said, still no change and am loosing my cool here.

The last call to them earlier tonite I was informed that it was MY equipment and not theirs and I may need to change my modem or update my computer. I can not understand what that has to do with this but I will go over to Circuit City tommorrow and exchange it so they can find another reason. At any rate I have access to some sites and some I still can not access at all. If I have access to the web and can look around and post on some how in the world can it be my system or modem, any ideas?.

This is a old system running Windows ME,a gig of ram,a P3-933 and 3 hard 80g hard drives. I use a Motorola Surfboard Modem to connect it and its the only computer on this cable. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am lost on what I missed or did here..... Andy

It sounds to me like a DNS problem on their end. Give me the web address of your clubs site/forums and I'll look up the IP address and give you a link to try to see if you can get to it directly.

Steve...

The website for our club is listed in my signature below my truck info. We have our club forums set up so unless your a member you can not view anything except the sign in page. I have changed modems and called them to activate, which they did and no changes with it(I knew that beforehand, but,It was worth a shot). I have chatted with them today after it activated and told them no change so they are now checking to see if its a problem on their end. So I guess till they get back to me its a wait and see game... ... . Andy

I just tried it and traced the IP. If I try to get to it directly through the IP address I get an error page. If I go to it via the URL I get in fine. Have you rebooted your PC since the modem change?
