Unfortunately, there isn't a hope in heck that Canada will ever have such relatively liberal gun laws the US has. We spent $1B on a useless and ineffective gun registry program that our own police have publicly stated they won't enforce.
That was a good report. I'm a cop and anybody that thinks I can be everywhere in time to save them is nuts. You'd best be able to protect yourself and your loved ones. A gun in the hand beats a cop on the phone!
Sageair, if you are a city cop you have some back-up somewhat close. I was in Winnamucca a few months ago, a long empty desolate freeway into town and a long desolate highway out of town. I really feel for the county and highway patrol out there.
I cried for help a few times on the radio, cops showed up out of the wood work in under a minute, within 2 minutes we had at least 8 cops to protect/help us.
It has been ruled time and again that the police are not obligated to protect private citizens. They are charged with apprehending the bad guys. There is no way that there will ever be enough police to protect each and every one of us.
I don't want that many police around anyway. This ain't the old USSR and I don't want it to be.
Besides, city administrators don't want to deal with the additional liability of protecting private citizens.
You're spot on. As for the CDC numbers, they're right on too. When you hear Rosie speak of "child" deaths due to firearms, she is including people up to like 24 years of age. Go to the CDC's website, and you will see that more children die by drowning in a five gallon bucket each year than do by gun violence. You won't read that in the papers!!
