my 2000 3500 cummins would not start. I had this problem about 4 years ago and had to replace the crank sensor. I pulled the crank sensor and the end was eaten down to the medal pickup. i then pulled the pan and found the cone ring was broken in three pieces.I called cummins and dodge and was told that the tone ring was obsolete. I asked what is used to replace this part and no one had the answer. I called three warehouses with the same answer I called the local dodge dealer and a young lady told me where 2 cone rings were located After 24 hours on a computer I now have one. I hope no one has this same problem

It's actually pretty common and it's called a TONE ring. Typically the ring doesn't break but the bolts that hold the ring to the crank come out and the ring falls off. It is made in two pieces so you can put it on the crank.

i finally found two of these obsolete TONE rings. mine was broken in four pieses ( the 270 degree) the next job was how to put it in. Ihave acomplish that after an hor and a half. finding a tone ring was the hardest part of the job. my question was do they have an update for this problem and could find no answers. my 2000 dodge is nearing 300000 miles and still pulls strong though i am not pulling the 2600 morbark chipper any more.

It probably broke after the bolts came out. Only fix I know of is clean it good and use some good loctite.

Not sure your 2000 model has one. I know '01 does not. Get me an ESN and I can tell you.
