New cummins diesel 5.0 L displacement (if it ever arrives)?

I live near the Lakewood (Jamestown) NY Cummins plant. I have been asking around but nobody seems to know much about the ISB and smaller (they make ISM and ISX motors here).

I have heard rumors of 4, 5, and 6 cylinders for the 5 liter. Anybody heard anything more about the cylinder count?

5 liter, now that's a new twist. The speculation for the last several years has been a 5. 6L V8, that's what was under development along with a 4. 2L V6. The V8 was targeted for 300hp, 5000 RPM redline, and only about 60lbs heavier than a 360 V8. So if indeed the optional powerplant is a 5 liter the question is whether it's a V6 or V8. I'm hedging it's a V8.

There used to be more details on the web in a Cummins publication (annual DEER updates) but evidently they've been pulled down. This is all I found

I imagine it's a V8... a 5. 0L V6 would be giant... remember, both the Ford and Chevy 1/2 ton diesels will only be in the mid 4L range for displacement...

I went to the dark side... . :)

I sold my truck and bought on 06 chevy duramax/allison. I think I made a mistake though and now just purchased an 06 megacab 4X4..... so long story short... . yes, I am back !!

but remember y'all, with this new emissions crap, how powerful or efficient will this 5L gonna be? Still badged and backed with America's best small-medium diesel engine... . food for thought
