There may have more posted but the info I was looking for was not readily available . . So this posting is my experience with the upgrade.

If you had any doubts that kit number 82206157 was complete . . forget it . . it is! Instructions are real clear, install went exactly as detailed in those instructions.

I have a Y2k so the 10mm socket was the correct size for the old and the new mirror bolts. I guess older years have the 8mm for the old mirror bolts

I had all my tools gathered before starting . . 10mm socket, inch lb torq wrench (40 in lbs) phillips driver and a extra set of hands to steady the mirrors (take off and new install)

Only 2 of the door panel clips needed removing plus a couple of door screws. The door panel does not need to be removed . . just the top corner behind the mirror. Again . . instructions were really clear and correct.

Less than a hour the install was complete.

I didn't have the electric mirrors . . so it was a no brainer for me to decide to go with the new Flip-up's.

They work perfectly . . no vibration or increased wind noise noticed at any speed below 80 in the normal and flip'd positions.

Some measurements.

Old Mirrors - 11. 5 inches from glass to edge of plastic mirror housing.

New Mirrors - 15. 5 inches from glass to edge of mirror housing - Normal position.

New Mirrors - 20 inches flipped up position.

Other notes - When in the flipped up position . . there is a blank plastic plate . . which appears that an additional mirror can be placed. There is no mirror in this secondary location included in this kit. Maybe there is one in the ones from the dealers that charge $370 per side. For that price each they should be electric! I'll have to do some more investigation to see if a mirror can be purchased for this location.

They work fine without it though. The convex mirror is in the right location for my taste . . upper right outside when normal and lower right when flipped.

I purchased my kit from Mopar-4-less for $252 which included shipping. I ordered the kit Monday and received it Friday.

The kit included BOTH left and right mirrors ready for installation - no assembly. The new brace plate and new yellow door panel fasteners, and a door panel plug for when you remove the electric switch from the old mirror.

For those interested I took pictures of the proceedure. 26 files for a total of 1. 1 megs. I WILL NOT seperate the files out. I'd be happy to e-mail the picture pack out for those who want to see first. You'll get all the files as an attachment of an e-mail . . just e-mail me with your e-mail address.

Big thumbs up in my book . . best $250 I spent in a while!

Michael

I remember when looking at '01's I read that initially a convex mirror was going to be located in the blank spot behind the mirror, but the guy who axed the rear body molding cancelled this option also... #ad

I have these tow mirrors on my '01 3500. I rubbed against a post in my carport and flexed the housing enough to break the flat mirror, the housing was fine nothing else broke. I called DC, it was gonna be $245 to replace. I went to National Auto Glass and they had an exact replacement (mirror only) installed for $20. I never noticed the blank spot, maybe Nat'l has something to go in there.

My wife was thrilled that I was the one that broke the new truck first. She took out a stop sign with our last truck when it was only 3 months old.

I have these mirrors on my 2001. 5 3500 ETH. I do NOT like the upper-outside location of the convex mirror when they're in the folded position. I think it would have been MUCH better if they'd been on the outside bottom, so when flipped up they'd be inside bottom.

I like being able to see outside wheels on my truck, for backing into parking spaces, among other things. I can't see them with the convex mirrors where they are now, so I attached a pair of adhesive convex mirrors I got from Pep Boys (square shaped with one rounded corner) to the arm of the mirror right next to the cab. May not be the best looking arrangement, but it works.

Rob,I agree with you that the convex mirrors are in the way when tilted in. But when pulling my TT and they are flipped up the visibility is excellent and the convex mirrors are in the right location. Now if they were power and heated Id be happier.

I think they were on the right track with the inner position for the convex. One large flat would have been better.

But I still love them . . A lot better looking than the slide on's.

If someone gets a line on the inner mirror . . please drop me a line!
