i have a stock, 2001 club cab. auto transmission. i have a chance to buy an edge pulse. if i only run it on the lowest setting, while the transmission last? what other mods do i need? with out hooking up the one wire, it will at like a edge e-z, wont it? confused in pa!!!

The edge pulse is just an edge comp with one less level (comp has 5, pulse has 4 and is missing the high end of the comp). If you run it with out hooking up the wire to the VP44 it is no different than an EZ. As long as you run it like an EZ your transmission should be fine (assuming you don't tow 35,000 lb traliers at WOT or something similar). If you hook up the pump wire and play at any other levels besides one you will be asking for trouble.

The Pulse also does not have the in-cab adjustability of the Comp. If you are going to tap the pump wire, get the Comp. If not, get the EZ.

My brother is currently running the edge pulse box, really woke his truck up. His is a 5-speed however, running it on level 4 has not slipped the clutch yet. . I would go for it.

SLewis - The Pulse on level 4 adds 90 hp. That is enough to do your bros transmission in. He needs to do to his transmission what you did to yours.

It would be unwise to add much more than than 40 hp to a stock truck (either 5 speed or auto) as it is going to get the transmission sooner or later. Some trucks last longer than others depending on how much towing, how they are driven and the little inherent differences in build.

I added a power edge (their orig fuel box) to my stock truck and ran it on level 3 (90 hp if I remember correctly) for a while. My transmission never had any problems but I was nervous so I did the transmission upgrade shuffle, it is still the best mod I have ever done to my truck.

JR2,

What is the basis for you 40 hp limit? I don't want to start any wars like the ones concerning oil preference but... .

I have stage 3 injectors (100 hp+) with boost fooler. I haven't any problems. Limiting myself to 30 psi of boost I get 285 rwhp and 617 lb ft of torque. I chose 30 psi arbitrarily as I have read about problems when PSIs get up around 40 psi. So I am sure I could make more measureable power but what's the point? Anyway, Yes I know you said sooner the transmission would die but there is a difference in how and when a box adds power and how and when injectors add power. Boxes are sudden and in the lower RPM range, injectors on the otherhand follow the stock (normal) fuel delivery curve and the power comes up smoother over the power band. This smooth power application IMHO is fine for my 5 spd transmission. I have read that the clutch should hold all the way to 850 lb ft. Wonder what other poeple think. Since most everyone was talking strictly hp I thought I would through my 2 cents in.
