I went out Sunday morning to start my truck turned the key and all I got was click, kept trying still just a click batteries are new less than a month so I tried again vroom fired right up. I have heard of these symptoms before so I ordered new contacts and solenoid from Larry B's. Today I turned a t an intersection air bag light came on, probably the clock spring I replaced it 30k ago. Just out of curiosity I thought I would scan for codes I got P-1596 (speed control switch always high) and P-1682 (charging system voltage too low) Are these codes related to the problems I’m having? I’m just a little confused on what is going on

Ok so I cleared the codes and went for a drive I’m still getting the P-1596 (speed control switch always high) what is a speed control switch? Is it the sensor in the rear axle? As far as the air bag light goes I’m now 99% sure it’s the clock spring because the cruise control and horn do not work. Any help on the P-1596 (speed control switch always high) would be great.

Sounds like a short in the cruise control switch to me..... something in the harness or switch. I'm only guessing, but that seems logical.

Yeah I got to thinking about that since the cruise control not working is a symptom of a bad clock spring, and I have a code saying speed control always high then I’m guessing that’s what wrong. I will replace the clock spring and see if the code goes away.
