TDR member John Welsch’s truck photo won our July calendar contest with flying colors – flying American colors that is - with twin American flags gracing the sides of the truck bed. His winning photo was taken at the Boulder City, Nevada Historic Airport Hangar.

His truck is a 1993 Dodge D250 (2WD) with only 220,000 miles currently on its odometer. John says he’s typically getting about 17 miles per gallon and has added the following modifications:

Industrial Injection Hotrod Pump
P.O.D. Injectors
Gillette Turbo Upgrade
Redhead Steering Box
Rolls Royce Hood Moulding
’67 Camaro Parking Lights
Train horns

John says his truck is his daily driver, plus his junkyard parts runner. When we asked him what the most unusual thing he’s trailered with it, he replied that “some things are better left unspoken.” Hah! We thought best to move on. Then we asked him what is the heaviest thing he every trailered with it, he replied that it was a politician’s lunch pail. We couldn’t quite move on from that due to the laughter.

This is the first time he’s entered the TDR Calendar Contest, though he’s been a long time thread reader on the TDR forums, he’s a relatively new TDR member. He’s owned four Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel trucks in the past 21 years.

Regarding his First Generation winning truck, John adds: “I’ve owned newer trucks but hate DPF, computers, electronics, and codes so I went back to the old nuts and bolts diesel. Less is more…sometimes.”

One final note about John is, not only is he the July calendar winner but his birthday is on July 20th! Nice. We hope you have a very happy birthday John, and thank you for being a part of the Turbo Diesel Register community!
