How do I put a link in a post?

Save your land, don't buy a ford???

Well, our boys and girls in Washington DC are at it again, they just gave themselves a $4900 a year payraise, without to much fanfare in the news.

They can't come to any agreement on a Economic Stimulus Package to help the country get moving, but they get a payraise passed for themselves in 2 days. I wish I could give myself a $4900 a year raise. What a crock of beans!!!!

Let the next revolution begin!!!

I have a suggestion that would dramatically raise pay for Congressman, but would protect the people from them.

Seeing as how, on the average, a congressman votes to spend more money in a single year than the average person can spend in a lifetime, and writes more laws than the average person can read as well, in a year, I have a proposal that would curtail both.

1. Congressional salaries are tied to days in session.

2. Bonuses for specific behavior.

3. Penalties for other behavior.

ok, here's how they work:

1 - Congresscritters are paid for every day congress is NOT in session. $2000 a day. Anytime they are passing laws, raising taxes, etc, they do NOT get paid.

2. If Congress can cut spending below the precise amount of the previous year's spending, they get to equally share 1% of the "saved" money. Only those who voted FOR the cuts get the share, though.

If Congress repeals old regulations, they get $1 per page for each person who votes for the repeal.

3. Each page added to the US code results in a $10 penalty for each congressperson voting for the additional pages. This can be offset by repealing old laws.

Tax increases are paid only by those who vote FOR them. If these tax increases are "targeted", the increased cost will be assessed against them anyway, as if they were in the targeted group.

While this gives congress the ability to take home quite a bit of pay, it has the effect of influencing them to vote in ways that protect the people, not empower themselves. Even if it resulted in my representative or senator taking home over a half million a year, the behavior it would encourage would probably save the country trillions in short order.

Hadn't really thought of that angle. I'm sure I could find one or two. Come to think of it, a pay increase of a couple hundred thousand should make a difference of some kind. And since it really would not be at OUR expense, it might actually have a shot at public approval...

Sort of made me feel good when I heard about it I get a 5 - 7% annual pay raise, the congressmen are only getting a 4 point something.

Something else to keep in mind:::

Social Security??

Perhaps we were asking the wrong questions in this past election

year.

Our Senators/Congressmen do not pay into Social Security, and,

Therefore they do not collect from it. Social Security benefits were not suitable for them.

They felt they should have a special plan. Many years ago they

Voted in their benefit plan. In more recent years, no congress person has felt

the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes, their plan works like this:

When they retire no matter how long they have been in office,

they continue to draw their same pay until they die, except it may be

increased from time to time by the cost-of-living adjustments.

For example, former Senator Bill Bradley (New Jersey) and his wife

May be expected to draw $7,900,000. 00 over an average life span, with Mrs.

Bradley drawing $275,000. 00 during the last year of her life. Their cost

for this excellent plan is "0", nada, zilch. This little perk they voted in

for themselves is free to them.

You and I pick up the tab for this plan.

Our tax dollars at work!

Social Security, which you and I pay into every payday for our own

retirement, with an equal amount paid in by our employer, we can expect to

receive an average of $1,000 per month. We would have to collect our

benefits for 68 years and 1 month to equal the Bradley's benefits.

Imagine for a moment that you could structure a retirement plan so

desirable, a retirement plan that worked so well, that Railroad

Employees,Postal Workers, and others who were not in the plan would clamor to be

included.

This is how good Social Security could be, if only one small change

was made.

That change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan out

from under the Senators & Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security

plan with the rest of us. Watch how fast they fix it!!!

If enough people receive this message maybe a seed will be planted,

and maybe good changes will evolve.

Don't forget, our girl, Hillary Rodham Clinton, now comes under this

Congressional Retirement Plan.

Talking about the Clinton's, it's common knowledge that, in order

For her to establish NYS residency, they purchased a million dollar plus

house in upscale Chappaqua, NY. Makes sense.

Now, they are entitled to Secret Service protection for life. Still

makes sense. Here is where it becomes interesting. A residency had to be

built in order to house the Secret Service agents.

The Clinton's now charge the Secret Service rent for the use of said

residence and that rent is just about equal to their mortgage payment,

meaning that we, the tax payers, are paying the Clinton's mortgage, and

it's all perfectly legal.

How many people can YOU send this to?

I think it was W. C. Field that said "Be happy that you dont get all the government that you actually pay for". Or something close to that.

Several years ago, Congress was tired of all the hell being raised every time they voted on their pay raise.

Sooooooo. they changed the pay raise laws.

NOW the pay raise is AUTOMATIC:rolleyes:

They have to vote on it ONLY to cancel their raise for the year.

Guess which vote never makes it to the floor because of time constraints.

"Think you can trust our government?... ... . Just ask an Indian"
