I hope I am posting this in the correct section, if not I aplogize. With CI-4 oils becoming harder to find, I recently contacted the oil distributers in my area to see if they are still stocking any. One distributer I contacted has an over surplus of Conoco/Phillips 15W-40 with the CI-4 Plus rating in 1-gallon jugs. The cost for it is $31. 00 per case (4) 1-gallon jugs. I have researched the oil online and have yet been able to find much information out about it. Have any of you guys ran this oil? With the price of it, I am considering purchasing a few cases but I would like to find out more info. on it first. I found a second distributer that still stocks Shell Rotella T 15W-40 CI-4 Plus in 5-gallon pails, the cost is $60 per pail. I have considered purchasing some of this as well, but my only concern would be the shelf life. I understand if the containers remained sealed, it should keep for a long time, but by breaking the seal and installing a tap, I'm afraid it would lose some of it's additives before I could finish it off. Anyone know what the average shelf life of oil is? Perhaps I am just too paranoid about the new CJ-4 oils and should bite the bullet and start using them.

buy all the conoco power d 15/40 you can get. thats a great price. i have used it since my 2003 was new. change every 10,000 miles. can eat out of my engine, its that clean. du pont uses it in their fleet of trucks locally. they sample regularly. no problems. i have to get mine through a local distrubiture. it is great. should be abile to google it. information is out there.

the oil has a very long life. do not worry about it. they can not produce any more ci4 oil in quart or gallon jugs but it is still made in 5 gallon and 55 gallon drums, dello and rotella ci4 is available at the distributors and is cheaper than the cj4. as stated the conico is as good as dello or rotella

I ran Power D in my 97 back when I worked for Conoco(used to get a discount at the local distributor) and my engine was always nice and clean when I would do valve adjustments. The only issue I had was sourcing it when I wasn't home.

I changed oils when I changed jobs, I run Delo now ;)
