Thinking about going with a new 07. Just wondering what the general consensus is on the new 6. 7/6 speed auto/factory installed e brake.

I know its early, but how is BOMBing going to take place with the electronis.

I hear there is a special kind of oil that no one has and the stealership cost ya over 100 bucks for a oil change.

Do you think these trucks will be a million mile club or close to it?

I know when something new comes out, its kinda scary for all the bugs in it, espically with it being electriacal.

I am looking for a truck that is like a caddy, going to get dvd, leather, sunroof, ETC. I still have my cargo trailer i might tow, but i want a cummins that is like a caddy (i know the ride sucks).

Whats everyones thoughts on the new ones??

Seems like everyone that has one likes it. No one has one that's fully broken in yet, so the fuel mileage isn't as good as it "could" be.

The oil is CJ-4. Special formulation due to emissions, but not hard to get. Dealers charge $100 for an oil change because they can.

I personally think there will be a few million milers out there.

Good luck.

the ONLY negative comment ive read/heard about these trucks is that the computer tends to demand an oil change too soon. sort of like a DTC for oil changes.

everything else if heard is that they are a heck of a nice truck. particularly the 6sp auto and ebrake.

Im very pleased with mine at 2500 miles, with 40% of those pulling my 6000lb boat . I am in love with the 6. 7l , 68rfe and the e brake. The mpg is not the best but i think it will come in time.

Got my truck 3 weeks ago and it has spent the last 8 days in the shop after the "idiot light" came on. After the dealer pulled the codes, contaced Cummins, waited for a course of action from them; they decided to replace the turbo which is happening as I type this. So far, I am not impressed.

I'm thinking about a new truck too, but comparing the new Chevy to the Dodge, the chevy is starting to look better and better. Only advantage for the Dodge is engine, exhaust brake, and SFS vs IFS. Interior of Chevy is much, much better than Dodge, and I am not a huge BOMBer. On comparably equipped trucks, the Chevy stickers several thou less. Flame on if you must, but I don't wear mopar blinders. That being said, '97 and '03 have been great trucks.

After a week and about 1,100 miles my impression is it is an excellent truck. :D The 6. 7 Cummins, 68RFE transmission and factory exhaust brake work very well together. I can hardly wait to tow the travel trailer to see how it does. So much quieter than the 98. 5 that its difficult to even tell it's a diesel. Of course until you step on the throttle and feel the torque suck you back in your seat. :-laf

As for the oil Delo has the CJ-4 rated out and it's available at Costco and other local chain stores for about the same price as the old oil was. I change my own oil and service everything I possibly can myself.

Sorry to hear of your problems, hopefully the turbo swap will take care of it, but it seems odd to me a turbo would set a code if there's nothing noticeably wrong with it. I haven't read a ton of threads about the new 6. 7 trucks but you're the first one I've read about having a significant problem. Keep us posted, and welcome to TDR.

So far only 1,100 miles on mine, 2500 4x4 quad cab 6 spd auto, and I love it. I had been easing along with it until I got a few miles on before I dropped the hammer. Finally did yesterday afternoon on the way home passing an 18 wheeler. Man that thing pulls HARD. I love not having to shift anymore. I don't know about longevitiy yet, but that will come. The overall performance has been good though. Hand calculated I'm at 17. 6 mpg and the overhead was reading 18. 1. The overhead has now gone up to 19. 4 in the last 2 days so I don't know if it's off or what, but I'll be hand calculating for a while to see how it goes.

I was doing some reading on the Duramax site about comparing the new Chevy to the new Dodge:

LMM vs. Cummins 6. 7? - Diesel Place

I was surprised to read some of the issues and concerns. There is some good discussions early on in the thread and gradually it deteriorates to both Dodge and Chevy bashing. Interesting reading for anyone looking for a new diesel pickup truck.

I have the cab and chassis model and after 44,500 miles the only thing I've done is change filters and fluids. So far this has been a completely trouble free truck. I run hotshot in the oilfields pulling a big gooseneck and I think the truck couldn't really be any better. With the Aisin transmission and the e-brake it seems to be the perfect truck for me. The mileage could be a little better, it is averaging around 10 pulling, and it could have a bit more power, when do you ever have enough, but it certainly gets the job done. To this point I couldn't ask for anything more.

Again this is the cab and chassis model, so I can't really compare it to the pickup model, different engine hp, and different transmission.

Les, I did read that, thanks for pointing it out, and it has led me to believe that like boats, there is no perfect truck, you just need to decide what feature is most important to you. I do think the duramax has lessened the advantage that the Cummins has held in the engine dept. just as Dodge has caught up in the transmission dept. Honestly, the whole A/C issue worries me, as well as what appears to be D/C trying to wiggle out of warranty work at every available opportunity. Living through a hot and humid southern summer would be very tough with a sub-par A/C. I dunno. It used to be a real easy choice when GM had the 6. 5. At least I DO know that a Ford is not an option.

I drove both the Dodge and the Chevy trucks both the classic and the new body style and I went with Dodge because of the Mega Cab

i sat in the front of the new chevy and I am 6' 2" tall and with the seat all the way down my head hit the head liner that in itself was reason not to purchase the Chevrolet. I did think the interior was nicer but without the large room in the back like the Mega cab has i would not have been happy with it. I like my 07 6. 7 with the auto trans and DRW i just wish the mpg would get better than 14. 1 at it's best but with only 600 miles on the truck it can only get better

I agree completely. Although I want a new truck now, I can wait for the 2009 models that are supposed to be a new generation, with a new design AC system. I was looking at the Duramax site because I thought a Chevy might be an option, but like you said, there are no perfect trucks.

I did like the comment that said the Duramax was a short term "hotrod" truck and the Cummins was a long term work truck. Another was, "when did you ever see an over the road commercial truck with a V8 diesel with aluminum heads??"

I just have an issue with a Izusu Diesel, the aluminum heads are stupid when you think about pulling grades and the heat generated in the DMAX, yes they have been known to overheat, and the compression being high when you need to depend on running at the limits, it scares me.

I drove the LLY 5 spd for about 6 mo. and was not impressed. My 6. 7 puts it to shame. That clutch fan would engage when ambient temps were 60* running at 70 MPH, the truck ran hot (220*) and the MPG was poor (12MPG) I know it sounds like I am GM bashing, just relaying my experiance with the DMAX

My 6. 7 has been flawless and don't notice the new emissions, you can read about the MPG on my Kansas trip in the "road trip with pics" thread on the 3500 C&C forum. I had a hard time deciding on the manuel trans, with the 180K warranty on the auto (Aisin), but the choice was manuel transmission. I don't believe in a auto behind a Diesel. The post on the turbo is a odd problem and rare for the CTD. I wouldn't base my decision on that, every make has its problems even Toyota. Your choice should be what your happy with and the extra HP can be a factor but you should consider the brut power these CTD have proven to have over the nearly 20 years with mostly little problems.

I have never had warranty denied in any new Dodge product I purchased, and believe these issues started when owners started chipping and then programing there CTD's

Landon,

I think your mid-17s is very credible -- especially since I'm getting around 17 (holding speed to 62) with a dually and a lot of weight in misc. add-ons.

I can't understand why so many 6. 7 owners are reporting only 14 mpg, unless they're driving much faster than I am, have "lead feet" (on the throttle) or they're dealing with terrible city traffic. I'm getting better than 14 mpg driving around town in a densely populated area with lots of stop lights.

I think a lot of it has to do with how we drive our trucks. If you think about it and focus on starting slowly and slowing for stop lights (anticipating the change to green) your driving style can make a big difference in your time between fill-ups.

I will second that one. :)

I know this is right. I tried it for the last week. Reset the overhead and drove it more aggresively and is now averaging 14. 2. I started driving like an old woman again and it goes back up to 17. 8. I drive about an hour to work, so I'm usually not in a hurry and there isn't much traffic as I can take the back roads, so I limit speed to 65 and don't get the RPM's over 2,100 when taking off. Makes a HUGE difference in MPG.

my goodness if i have to worry bout lights changing green and keeping the rpms just right all the time then i dont need to be driving then. i like to save gas but im not gonna creep around like grandma. lol my way of saying i dont mind paying a little extra on fuel. lol i cant stand having all this power and not enjoying it sometime.
