Consequences of a stealth delete on the DPF...

Who tows somewhat heavy with ridge grapplers or toyo AT2?

Which would be the best delete tuner which will kill CELs, and deactivate the EGR and DPF while leaving everything on? Essentially a stealth delete.

But... doing this would result in the DPF building up soot to the point it will eventually be blocked, wouldn't it?

Thanks...

A tune that disables the EGR but leaves DPF tuning in place could be done and doesn't hurt anything.
If you get a tune that disables DPF regeneration you need to remove the DPF or it will clog as you said. Some people have gutted the DPF to keep the can in place but use a delete tune to fully delete the truck. That is really the only stealth delete.

I know of some people who got busted having a fake DPF as a heat gun quickly shows its gutted and cops are catching on.

Don't even need a heat gun. You can rub your finger inside the tailpipe, black soot deleted, grey ash good.

Save all your components if you delete as you need them if you ever trade or get caught at an inspection.

First Time this simple fact is pointed out here, yes there is no stealth delete.

And as long as the DPF is in place, the rest of the system must be in working order to prevent the DPF from clogging.

Yes Sir,

This was field research I conducted on my truck. The emissions inspectors likely have more scientific procedures and equipment like the heat gun, but very interesting the very noticeable difference in what comes out. When the states realize all the fines can collect on emissions compliance, could be a windfall.

Anyhoo, just my observation.

Cheers, Ron

What state and who?

I do know of any police officer who will take the time to check a truck to see if it is deleted or not?

I’ve witnessed a full on opacity check on a medium septic tanker truck by the NYS Enviro cops. It went down on a side street off a main drag, where I was in a bank parking lot- simply stunned at what I was seeing. I stuck around a little while to watch.
They had the same red mountain machine I use for state inspections, and the cop had gloves, a flashlight and a creeper. He meant business.
If this were a delete, the owner was doomed.

Ron, I do not think that the states will get any money from someone who has deleted! If any government body was to get any money it would be the feds!

Most states need to start doing emission testing for diesel trucks in order to catch them! ILL does not do any testing on private diesel own vehicles. My wife's 2011 VW Jetta has never been tested nor has my 2008 truck been tested. We live in the Chicago metro area that requires emission testing on gas vehicles but not diesel.

Just my $0.02 and opinion!

I agree with you on who gets the money, the payee won't care, money will be gone.

If we get an administration that pushes environmental enforcement, all Feds have to do is attach compliance with Fed highway funding. It worked and it worked fast when Feds mandated national 55 MPH max speed limit. In TX, I think we're on the edge of getting there, especially in some of the cities. And read the articles about delete sellers and manufacturers getting big fines from the EPA and EPA ruling no street vehicle can be designated and operated as an off road vehicle and deleted. Good, bad or indifferent, appears to be movement in EPA enforcement.

And, trouble shooting a deleted truck can be more complicated in that many dealers may not work on a deleted truck. That was the reason I put all the emissions on my deleted truck. And Federal law enforcement in a state that does enforce doesn't recognize states that don't. We travel in other states a lot.

As a former deleter, it's just a good to know and understand the implications.

Cheers and good luck deleting if that's what you end up doing.

Ron

It was California Highway Patrol, seen it more then once but more so the point being that gutting a DPF or other emissions parts then reinstalling is in no fool proof way to get around deleting.

It’s only illegal if you get caught...... Keep in mind while your state may not have testing the state next to you might. Like New York. Roll enough coal in front of the wrong officer and they will call out the mobile smog machine and God help you if they find your rig deleted.
The party is over my friends...

Friends,

We may or may not be there yet when emissions equipment is VERY reliable. I don't know of ANYONE who has deleted catalytic converter and HP is highest ever with them. Ram certainly has hit its highest numbers with emissions on.

So, not too much else to say except Cheers, Ron

Well ED, what a coincidence! Not an hour ago, I saw this!
Yep that’s the world famous Fresh Kills landfill in the background, and my shop is just to the right of this picture. I saw the pull em over strobes as I was leaving, and I knew I’d be passing by, so I managed to get this shot.
Here we have a 6.4 era Power Stroke that was hauled over by the NYS DEC police. I’ll never know why this happened- maybe he’s suspected of trapping (illegal in NYC) or whatever, but if you’re deleted, you’re sweating bullets right now!

OK, I will ask what is the DEC police?

When I was in New York State a year ago, I stop at the first rest stop on I86 when entering the state. (This is a very nice rest stop on top of a hill over looking a lake.) Will when I pulled in there was the state police doing a safety check and scale weighting on all semis and commercial trucks. We pulled up and stop, with my wife going in to the ladies room. I on the other hand checked the tires with an heat gun, both trailer and truck. The truck was idling at the time! When I was done a state trooper walked over and stated nice rig and proceeded to ask question about my Cedar Creek. He stated that his wife and he were looking at a new fiver, with the Cedar Creek being one of the models. All of the time the truck still idling after a while he said thanks and he better get back to work as another semi was coming in to be checked and weighed.

I finally got to use the men's room and walked around the site. We got back in and started up the truck waving good by to the police.
Just saying!

Jim,
Department of Environmental Conservation. That was the enforcement unit. Not to be confused with NYS Troopers, who you saw. The DEC guys would have been running a clock in you as you were idling.
These are Power drunk, out of control guys.
Real story. There’s a creek that runs through the landfill, and now since everything is shut down and all the runoff is recovered, that creek is bustling with life. Meanwhile, unbeknown to us, there’s been “glass eels” breeding out there, and they’re a hot commodity, and someone’s been poaching them.
Well there was a slow Saturday, and I was in our office with a few guys when one of these Mavericks come in and is looking to use the phone. Well we start the small talk, and we are a Gov agency like he is, so there should be some camaraderie but there wasn’t. One of the guys thought “Glass Eel” was a joke, but that officer was so serious. We just left the room. But before we did, he snapped at us and “educated” us about the poaching and them being a hot commodity.
