considering buying new truck, help!!!

My dad is in the market for a new diesel truck, I was wondering what problems you have had with it if any? The reason for asking is that he currently owns a 01 duramax/ allison truck and has had a considerable amount of trouble with it. He just wants to know what some of the problems with the dodge/cummins trucks are if there have been any.

I have 25,000 miles on my 03 . Only problem I have had was a leaky valve cover gasket. I know there are quite a few out there with considerably more miles. There was a guy that posted on here the other month that had over 100,000 miles on his 03 already. They hold up well.

I have an '04 with about 10,000 miles. I've had no problems at all with it.

Just browse some of the posts on here. Seems to be some Rear end problems ( Which I have) and some other issues. . But I love the Cumins and WIll try and wade thru the Chrysler parts! LOLOL

A recent poll on this site has a 93% liking their new Cummins Dodge trucks. I think this might be a little higher then the others.

I agree that the best way to see what problems members have been having is to surf the topics here, but keep in mind that doing so will make it look like these trucks are full of problems because members usually don't post when nothing is wrong with their trucks, only when they have a problem. I assume the majority of the TDR membes don't even sign in, unless they actually have a problem and need help.



My personal experience: I had a 2001. 5 for about 2-1/2 years and the only significant problem I had was an A/C compressor that went bad, and was replaced under warranty. My 2004. 5 has had no problems at all, other than the A/C being a bit low on freon, again, fixed under warranty.

04 3500 dually with close to 50K as I write this... . I'm keeping this one, selling 2 of my Fords F250's and ordering another 04. 5 in a couple of weeks... .

I have owned quite a few of the other brands. My only problem with my truck now is what bomb to do next you can't beat Cummins power!!!

How fast were you going and what are the specs of your truck? Just curious as I have an 04. 5 on order.



My '02 has been flawless.

See signature for truck. 14K since end of December. One "problem" the weather stipping on the drivers door is wore through. But this will be fixed by a TSB.



Average mpg - 19. 5. Really like the brakes, the four doors, the 3. 73 coupled with the 6 speed - cruises real nice. The quiet CMR injection. The ride is smooth too. This one is another keeper - I mean it this time.



Absolutely no problems with my first two CTDs.

17000 Miles and not one problem with it . First cummins but have work on the big rigs for 30 years, you just can not beat cummins power. LOVE THIS TRUCK WILDMAN

'03 3500 with 32K miles and the only problem is the occasional false indicator on the guages. I am too lazy to take it in to have it flashed and it is only a very minor annoyance.
