Honest opinion, Mark.....you're about 7.5 years late to make real money. Right now, the infrastructure is (mostly) in place, and there are scamps running around by the thousands, and the oil companies can cherry pick who they want.

That being said, this also means there are a ton of washouts, more housing availability, and in general more things available than previously in regards to day-to-day life needs

If you do it, MAKE SURE whatever your'e doing up there is worth the higher cost of living and MAKE SURE whoever is employing you has a good benefit package. The big money jobs are still on the oil patch, and the work is not for the faint of heart, nor is it free from politics, locker room humor, and typical 2nd grade neanderthal behavior.

Planning on getting my hotshot deal going again. Guy I've been talking to up there ( that wants my '93 real bad) seems to be doing alright up there.... 74% of $ 125/ hr with trailer, 110 without . Just about have had it trying to work around here anymore, everyone wants to work all day long, then come back for more a few hours later, think they own you , etc., so on and so forth !

If you can make it work, more power to you.

Keep in mind though that those wells run 24/7 and when they need something, they need it, and the first guy to get it there gets the next phone call. They don't care if you're over your HOS or not. They want the drill pipe. Yesterday.

Make sure you have housing in place before you make the trip. If you have an rv, lot rent runs $500 to $1000 a month. This time of year you've got to pay alot of attention to winter prep. If you rent, expect $2000 for a house trailer, $3,000 ish for an apartment. Often times first months rent plus a healthy deposit or two months rent's required. If the hotshot deal falls through there's lots of calls for drivers, oil, produced water, fresh water, gravel, sand it's a crazy place with lots of hours but you "work" for your money.
