Finally read the April CR magazine on Best and Worst Cars. Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500, 2006 to 2010 made the "Used Models to Avoid" list. I wonder what is up with that??? Bad deal because I have a 2006!!
But they also hammered the Ford and Chevy diesels.

I am a very long time CR subscriber and have trusted what they say in the past. I now question some of their judgment I don't believe they know what they are doing when they bad mouth Dodge and Cummins diesels.

CR bases their recommendations on reader surveys which is an unscientific survey. Obviously, only those who have had problems bother to fill out and send in their annual surveys. CR's idea of a truck is a 4-cylinder Toyota Tacoma or a Honda Ridgeline.

Think they are hard on our trucks, check out the Jeep Wrangler reviews. I guess the folks who buy them for the "cool" factor don't realize they are a VERY capable four wheeler and not so much of a daily driver (which mine is). No accounting for some peoples taste.

What do you expect for a bunch of tree huggers!!

I am sorry I have never trusted CR and what they have reported. I believe they have their own agenda and most of the items that I have purchased in the past have far exceeded what CR expectations are.

Yeah, it's always fun to read about the Wranglers. If you're going by CR, you'd think the Wrangler is the worst vehicle ever made and should be immediately discontinued. They've been hammering them ever since I've been old enough to drive and perusing their magazine. I pay interest to the Wrangler because I've been a Jeep owner for many years and am an administrator on one of the largest Jeep forums (virtualjeepclub.com).

CR hates anything from an American company and only loves things from a Japanese company. European sits in the middle usually.

There most recent hum was on the 2015 Chrysler 200 C as one of the current most disliked cars, of which there were four. They described the things they didn't like. They said they buy the cars like anyone would from a dealer and then test them so there is no preferential treatment shown. For what its worth.

I am certain the late third generation trucks made the list to avoid because of all the expensive emission problems (me included -turbo at 40k miles) have had with the truck. I really like all the other aspects about my truck as it is rock solid in every place except for the emission system (well there have also been numerous recalls). If you look back at the threads from 07 thru 2010 there has been a lot of complaining on this forum and forum B.
I assume the Ford and GM trucks probably got knocked for the same reason as all three brands were experiencing "growing pains" during that time period. I know folks who own these brands of trucks and hate the emission systems. Their biggest complaint is poor fuel mileage no matter how they are using the truck.
I would have to agree with what those previously said in that Consumer Reports does not like American cars. They have always banged on my beloved Jeep brand.

I am proud that my new Wrangler Unlimited got only 20 or 25 points out of 100 when rated by the socialist ultra-greenie wimps at Consumer Reports. The foreign sports car puffballs at Car and Driver don't like it either. Sure, there were issues, mostly software updates, to the 2007.5--2012 diesel emissions, but not near as bad as the airbag and runaway problems of their beloved Japanese companies.

Years ago a family member was considering a Ford Explorer. This was back when the Mazda Navajo existed. I remember reading excellent reviews for the Navajo, and terrible reviews for the Explorer. Even in things such as performance. That is when I formed my opinion on CR as those two vehicles were effectively the same vehicle, particularly the drivetrain. I could see minor differences in ratings, but it was night and day.

Of course they are the worst. I had quite a few issues with my 2005 Ram 3500 and my 2011 Ram 3500..... and compare it to my wife's 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid that is still using factory brakes and batteries, the only non-maintence item in 140K miles on the Camry was a water-pump at about 96K.

My 2016 Ram 3500 i picked up three weeks ago is already not reading the tire pressure so i get a warning for Tire Pressure service now.

Compared to my 2005 Ford Excursion 6.0 Powerstroke the Ram trucks are great. Compared to a Toyota Car they suck.

I use CR for buying TVs, toasters and when my wife wants a vacuum, or car we'll read the excellent CR reports.

We get the surveys every year.....I never fill them out as it just would take to much time i don't have...

I don't trust CR for trucks or truck like SUVs....

Quite the opposite with me. The Wife's Toyota is junk. Never again will I buy one. Spotwelds for the door mechanism break, almost a continual alignment issue and I have invested in brake manufacturers. The Dodge other than the 53 block issue just keeps on going.

I stopped my subscription about 30 years ago when I realized how they were running all the Chrysler products down and at the same time I saw them trying to promote some of the junk I saw in a lot of different categories.

TL agreed with a sleazy aftermarket tank company against me in the 90s that the supposed feedback fuel system of my 12 valve caused the rust and cracking of the tank. The episode did push me to Transfer Flow, which has been uniformly excellent over the years and I am now very happy. It also pushed me to quit wasting money on TL subscriptions.
