Contacts in Cold Weather?

Anyone have any!! problems with contacts in cold weather? im tired of my Glasses that FOG UP!!

How do we take a guy seriously that WANTS cold weather, it's in his blood and then complains about his glasses fogging up? Boo hoo hoo!

And BIG are you sure you don't just leave a FOOTPRINT and a Peg Leg imprint in the snow, not Footprints as you said you saw in the freshly fallen new snow? You'd be one easy guy to track like that.:-laf

I have been wearing contacts for 30 years and never had an issue with cold weather. They do tend to dry out more because of the dry heat inside and in a vehicle,especially with the defrost turned up. Nothing a few squirts of saline doesn't resolve.

Easy fix stay out in the cold and don't work so hard. Not the cold that fogs them up it is when you go back inside where it is warm or if you are working too hard outside and produce to much heat and if you go back out too soon or slow the work down to much the fog freezes. I feel for you I cant wear contacts so glasses it be for me and they are a pita but its glasses for me or not see worth a darn. I used to cut meat and it would do it going in and out of the cooler to the cutting room it was warmer than the cooler, or in and out of the freezer or out to the sales floor from the cutting room. Hard to safely cut meat with fog on your glasses. Skiing was a real pain sometimes moving quickly you got enough airflow to keep them from fogging but slow down some then fog and if cold enough ice which makes it a bit difficult to ski when you cant see through the ice on your glasses. I have found and you probably have too that at least when outside different hats make a difference, a ball cap style for instance isn't so good as the bill helps trap the heat whereas a stocking cap sitting a bit farther back on your forehead is better and if you can wear your glasses a bit farther out helps with the airflow as well. That used to help until I started wearing progressive lenses now if I do that I cant see well through the part of the glasses I need to be looking through as they aren't sitting where they should be. Anti fog stuff works sometimes ok but never seems to work when you need it the most when it is the coldest out. Sorry no answer to your question I guess just commiserating with you.

I have wrote and deleted several things about the above comment /\ Im really at a loss for words. So I will try to explain why I don't mind and WANT the cold, FOR NOW!!

I spent most of this Summer and Fall in the mountains. It was one of the best times that I have EVER!! had. For the first time since I retired, I actually felt like I had retired!! I had no schedule to follow, no particular place I had to be, on any particular day. Except for some re-supply points for feed and food, even then arrangements had been made that if I didn't show, Penny would drop them off and I would eventually get there. I made those supply points just because I have found a character flaw in my person, I cant go for as long as I thought without seeing and holding Penny.

During these times I ate enough trail dust and worked up enough of a sweat that, I found myself thinking about how nice it would be to feel the cool air of Fall. Fall came with more sweat packing Elk and Deer out of the hills, it was a pleasure to see the smiles but the work and sweat involved in hunting season is pretty tuff work. When Fall Hunting was done I went home. I had been in the mountains in the months of July, August, Sept. for 72 of the 92 days of those months. I thought that I owed Penny something for not giving me any B.S. about being gone, so I came in on the day before our Anniversary to be with her, funny gal she appreciated me taking her to a Resort Spa where I spent most of our 4 day stay there asleep, having not shaven for the 72 days. I looked like something that had crawled out from under a rock, again not one word said about it from her.

From that time I have been trying to catch up on the winter prep. I didn't expect her to split wood, take care of the animals, do the property maint, But she did. So now that its COLD outside and im still trying to catch up on doing things around here, Im working up a sweat working and my FRIGGING GLASSES FOG UP!!

We do like the Winter Cold, I like to see my breath in the cold air. Nothing is better than to see my Mules pulling a hay wagon or plow with steam coming from their breathing. And we really like to take the time to enjoy a season that MANY find unbearable and leave this place. Cross Country Skiing, For exercise, recreation or bragging rights in competitions, are just several of the ways that Penny and I enjoy this time of year, take a 50k ski and see if YOUR glasses don't fog up a bit. Snow machines with helmets on, work wonderfully to fog up glasses, Winter camping and cooking over a backpack stove us a sure fire way to FOG UP checking on the food.

For the others that posted on this, I have tried all the anti fog Crap and most of it works SOMETIMES.

My SIL has had Lasik surgery done and has had REDO'S, to her not that big a deal, for ME I don't like people sticking things in my eyes and it may sound like im a Baby about such things, SO WAHT!!

I Thank the one with the, I have no problems other than drying out a little, I use eye drops ALL THE TIME ANYWAY so that would be no big thing.

Gail is behaving just fine, he takes care of things before I have to get after him to do so.

We had a Wonderful time yesterday with a Veterans Day Party, the Children all had fun, everyone was full of good food, and none of the Bigger Male Children had to make a trip to the local ER. An unusual but happy occasion

Gail has even excepted my invitation to take him out on a Date this evening. I asked him if he would accompany me to Kalispell for Dinner and a Movie, he said that he would be more than happy to. Even if I did drop the chicken coop door on his head, I had to laugh when it hit his head I couldn't help myself, it sounded HOLLOW :-laf :-laf :-laf

BIG, good to hear you had a great fall season, one of my favorite seasons, gets cool, leaves change (yes, I do have hardwood trees) and as much campfire and star gazing as my schedule permits.

I have heard people using shaving cream on bathroom mirrors keeping them from fogging. Don't know if it will work for your circumstances but may be worth a try. Good luck.

I have a very hard time with the fogging glasses as well. Soap or shaving cream will help but these new glasses of mine have the crizall coating on them. Raindrops will smear the entire lens. I have not had any luck trying to treat these with anything. Plus they are double vision which just adds to the fun....

Yeah, I have a hard time relating to this thread as I usually have sweat dripping on my lenses or fogging when I pull them out of a frozen lunch box into the 100 plus temps. Doesn't take long for them to clear tho.

It had more of a BONK!! to it. Like a fallen tree that's been down and its hollow on the inside but still hard on the outside. (He's going to kill me for this :-laf) he's a pretty good sport about this kind of thing, he knows that I didn't do it on purpose. My Mother was up getting coffee at breakfast and noticed he had some blood on his head. She was upset that I had hurt her favorite Son-in-law. Gail's friend that's here said to put a handle of the coop door so I could really SLAM!! it down hard next time.

I gave up on the Crizall coating after 1 pair of glasses. I couldn't clean them without soap and hot water. Try to wipe them clean and all that happened was a smeared lens. My eye doctor doesn't even recommend them anymore. If I had a spare set of eyes I'd give LASIK a try but I'm not yet willing to risk the only ones I've got.

How could you guys hit on several of my favorites!

Jameson, a true gift. I usually get some on b-day or special occasions. We finished a $300 bottle of it in a pub in Seoul back about '97. Long story. Nice English pub you buy a bottle and they keep it for you in locked pigeon hole cabinets. Korean piano player, Romanian lounge singer belting out her best English repertoire and I about lost it when she went into John Denver's Take me Home Country Roads. Spent many deer seasons in WV, many special memories.

Rueben sandwich. Wow. We grew up outside Cleveland and we had a good selection of REAL Reuben sandwich delis and restaurants that cooked their own and sliced it to order piled high. Really hard to get a real Jewish deli style Reuben here abouts. Kalispel was a day trip after my so far one and only venture into GNP with Uncle Fred. It was a business trip maybe 6 years ago. Fred lived out his last years in Polson and his ability to get out on a trip was a bit limited so we just did a day trip.

Big, I wore contacts for 30+ years and I had to remove them when entering the factory floor at Cat. The company policy was no eye contacts in the manufacturing area; but I could and can see will enough not to wear them just could not read prints in the shop. I did wear them at all other times except when I went to bed. I have worn them in -40F weather when I was in Fairbanks AK one winter when I was working on a mining machine with no issues at all.

I ended up with an eye infection from wearing them in my 60's so I do not wear them anymore. When I was doing woodwork in my shop the fine dust particles were a bother for my eye contacts; always had to flush them out. I discuss the LASIK procedure with my OPTOMETRIST and he stated that he felt that I did not need this procedure. Since I can see without the use of glasses and still can pass the basic vision test just can’t read print without eye strain and headache.

I leave my lenses in for about 3 months and have not had any problems. My optometrist said that since I have that kind of schedule don't even consider lazik.

I could never wear contacts when I worked a guy did and got splashed with gas in his eyes and the contacts were kind of melted to his eyes, didn't sound like fun to me. My eyes are not that bad, I have no lines for reading, I pass the eye test without glasses for my CDL. I was asked why the glasses then, I told them that I hauled Gasoline and I want to make sure of the off ramp name before I get on top of it and have to make big mistake driving it just clears everything up sharp from a distance.

Didn't think about the dust part of the contacts im always in the woodshop for something, More worried about how they would react to cold if drops are all that's needed that's not a problem.

Penny and I went to Kalispell last night to watch Interstellar A really good movie by the way, also we didn't leave our seats so we were treated to John Wick, Not something that I would NOT have paid for but since we didn't pay it wasn't to bad. We got out of the movie house at 11 o'clock so we got a room and stayed in town.

Had breakfast, went to Costco, looked at some new cars!!! actually lots of new cars, Lunch, bought some luggage and came sliding home on the icy roads WITH ME DRIVING!!

When the bad weather comes for the West its ICE, I guess it picks up all the moisture from the ocean and drops it on us, If it comes from the North its like driving in sand REAL DRY, not always but most of the time. Last night we seen a bank sign that said -19, Now at home the mini weather station says it 15* and its sunny. feels colder with the wind thou.
