contaminated fuel?

what are some symptoms of contaminated fuel, other than not running.

my truck has been idling rough, like a missfire that gets worse at times or goes away completely at others, im pretty sure that its not the i/p i just rebuilt it a couple months ago and took it apart last week and found no problems inside, injectors are new, but could be messed up? but im leaning towards fuel as i got it from someone who has a refueling truck that gets used and filled regularly. what should i look for in the fuel if anything? power seems normal, just rough idle at times.

If you have microbes growing in your fuel the filters will be black and slimy. I've gotten silt in the fuel before and both of these will basically result in low power. Have you looked at your fuel filters lately?

I thought I had bad fuel too but it turned out to be the bolts that hold the fuel plate in had loosened and the plate was just flopping around in there. I repositioned the plate,tightened the bolts,and it runs great again.

ok, but ve's dont have a fuel plate and my pump was off last week and everything is ok in there. what i am trying to find out is if bad fuel will cause a miss at idle and still have good power?
