on my 94 ctd with an ATS transmission , the conv is locking up and then shifting when i turn od off. i also notice it stays locked up when i back off the throttle. as soon as i touch the brake it unlocks and stays unlocked until i get back on the the throttle. if i drag the brake between shifts its fine. the tps is @ 1. 0 at idle and 3. 4 WOT. is it possible the brake switch is causing the problem? thanks Lenny

Yes replace brake switch, the brake switch is tyed in to the system and when you step on the brake it disengages the lock up. If you have to hold up the brake petal them it needs replacing.

If I read your statement correctly, I think that it is re-enginered to work that way. I understood you to say that it locks up and stays locked untill you touch the brake. I remember reading something about the upgraded builders and that this type of lockup function is deliberate. I wish my 94 would do the same. It is still stock original and the converter is an abomination when tring to use full power to accelerate. It unlocks and the tach will go to 23 or 2400 rpm and set there untill lock up.

Just a thought... . I think I would check with the builder to see if you have a problem.

I also have the ATS converter and it is only suppose to stay locked up if you have a controller to keep it locked up. I was trying to track down a problem with my TPS several months ago and was able to duplicate your symtoms by changing TPS voltage values. I would back off on the voltage and be willing to bet it will solve your problem.

i have had problems with the brake switch. i had to lift the brake pedal up to get off the brake lights. i just zip tied the switch (adding pressure) and it solved the problem. i'm unsure if this is the problem because i put the new ats transmission, new throttle linkage rod in and adjusted the tps all at the same time. ill try adjusting some voltage out of the tps first. thank you members
