Convert 3500 to SRW

I want to convert my dually to a single rear wheel. Are the axles the same with as on the 2500? I know the front has spacers bolted on, but I am thinking a regular wheel should bolt up.

Anyone done this? I also need a new bed.

convert from 3500

I have heard that converting from a 2500 to 3500 is simple. I'm told the same axle is used and an adapter for the dual wheels is used. The 3500 has a larger overload spring, but I think the basic spring pack is the same.

My guess is that this will be an easy conversion. :D

Couple things to check:

1. will studs press into the brake rotors once the adapters are removed

2. the offset of stock dual wheels, that is the center of the treads vs. center of wheels, is to the outside slightly, maybe 5/16". The bearing spacing is set up to work with this. On a single wheel axle, the stock offset is a little to the inside, about 1/2 inch as I recall. Given the stock weight capacityh of a dually diff, you should easily have more capacity than single wheels give. However, the hub probably sticks out more, so you could have trouble finding center caps to fit. For example, the deepest Alcoa cap that fits their classic wheel is #2167 which is about 1. 17" deeper than the usual #3167 for the 3/4 ton trucks. This may be deep enough (?) The studs are longer so you will need deep lug covers if you are going to aftermarket wheels like Alcoa.

You already know about the bed/auxiliary fender issue. Of course, you could run a very wide rear rim and fill it up :)

Hope this helps a little. I don't know of anyone who has actually done the conversion.
