Had a conversation with a Toyota truck owner the other day. He started off saying that toyota trucks blow anything else off the road. "Oh really," I said, "wanna race?"

"No what I meant is that they last longer. I used to have a Tacoma 4x4 and it had 213,000 miles on it when I sold it, and I still got $4500 out of it. How many miles do you have on your truck?"

"260,000 or so. " Was my reply, "and it's worth about 10 grand... ... and it's 12 years old..... and it gets 20 mpg... ... . and it puts out over 300 hp and almost 800 ft/lbs of torque. "

"Hmmmm, that's a lot better than that Tacoma ever did... . " :(

HAHAHA, you should have seen the look on his face. I told him to ditch the yota and go out and get him a Dodge. Some people just don't get it! I hated to steal his thunder, but..... ok, so it didn't bother me!!!

Yeah, I get a kick out of the guys who think they are doing well with "almost 150K. ":rolleyes: Um, hate to burst your bubble, but I BOUGHT mine with 240K+, and it still had the factory honing marks in all 6 cylinders at 25%K. 20MPG, 50% or so over stock output (and just hitting the tip of the iceberg), and will blow the doors off most V8s towing. Plus, it is just plain COOL, man. :cool::cool:

Good one on the 'yota owner Oo.

Interesting Topic...............

This brings up an interesting topic. I had a conversation with our tech coordinater here at the school.

He has this car he drives... and don't know what it is... . sorry. One of them go fast sports cars you know. Like the one that is always trying to pass you on hills and weaving back and forth on the road in attempt to pass our lumbering trucks... ... ... ... ... ... . Yeah, the ones I like to smoke :)

So anyhow. I noticed he has installed gauges, so I asked "what for". He used to race this car when it was new. I asked him how fast and he repied it will do 1/4 mile at 13. 9 and something like 100 MPH with that time. It dynoed @ 301 hp and pulls 12 #'s of boost :eek: WOW!!!!

So,,,,,I had to ask him why he no longer races it... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... the reply;

"It's got 132,000 miles on the clock and it's too old to race"

Yeah, my first truck was an '84 Toyota -- Man I thought that was cool!! It would get about 19-21 mpg with that little 22R 4-banger. It was fun because you could fit it into some pretty tight places when out 4-wheeling . I rolled it when it had 150k . . .

Then I grew up and got my first CTD -- and things have never been the same! :) I put on about 35k miles a year, and I can't think of anything else I would rather be driving -- Unless it was a CTD with more horsepower. . .

:D :D

me too - I like the full size rigs... I just couldn't drive any midsize stuff - just too small. I got my rig at 207k, now sitting on 243, and I'm excited to see what the internals of the block look like - I bet there's still a crosshatch on the cylinders. Pretty awesome stuff these old rigs - I could have a newer one, but personally I just like the old iron. I wouldn't say they're cheaper to fix, but they are definitely cheaper to buy... plus I like to tinker. I bet if I had no time and more importantly, no desire to tinker, I'd have a newer one.

Plus, I love to roast most other trucks and some hot cars with the old beater. The looks I get from some other trucks are like... . dude, what you have in that thing... ? I raced a Hemi truck a while ago, and as his rumbling exhaust tried to outpull my turbofan... he just looked over and had the biggest grin - he was happy to race and I think even happy to see an older rig pumped up a bit - turbo whine is GOOD.
