I have a99 4x4 with auto transmission and would like to convert to a 5 or 6 speed standard.

Has anyone tried or done this ?. Are there any kits on the market or shops doing this conversion ?.

I Live a large metro area and parts may be available at the local salavge yards.

Any input apprreciated.

:)

Swapping over to a manual is much easier than going the other way. However, you'll need to get a ton of stuff, including shifter, console, manual PCM, driveline, steering column, etc... Why not just buy a new truck?

When all is said and done it is very easy to wrap up several thousand dollars in the conversion. I have heard of guys getting quoted in the neighborhood of $3500 - $4000, and this was at a credible diesel performance shop. If you are doing it youself you will obviously save alot from the labor alone.

That being said, IMO I don't think it's really worth the hassle unless you really like your truck. Buying a truck with a 5spd or 6spd may prove to be a better alternative.

I'm also curious, why not DTT. Have you driven a DTT automatic? Driving is beliveing. You probably won't hate that auto so much if it was setup properly.

Just my $. 02,

Ryan

I swapped because my auto couldnt handle the power Enterprise Engine Performance (DAVE MITCHELL) put to it. I had the SUncoast VB/TC. It lasted 120 miles after they power was added. Im roughly around 500hp and am going on up to a lil more. Granted I never had the chance to try a DTT, I am happy with the performance of this NV4500 and with the clutch I have. It is the same clutch Dave Mitchell is putting rougly 850 hp to with the famous White Dodge. I do a lot of truck pulls with him and have never had a problem. Right now I am still without cruise and am investigating which wires to jump to get it back. I hate to spend $800 on the one control module just for cruise. But if you do it defientely check out Enterprises clutch. Almost impossible to slip the double disc clutch. I think it is made from the same stuff PULLING SEMIS' clutchs are made of. They run anywhere from 2000-3000 hp.

If you read all the posts or if you do a search on (My DTT Experience) then you will read what I had to put out on my first ride in a DTT equiped ride, believe me you will change you whole thought process on an auto, what we need to do is hook you up with someone in your area what will let you drive there truck. Put a post up about it and I'll be you get a responce, TDR folks are the best.

Thanks for the input on the conversion.

I tried search on My DDT Experience and received a message must be three words or longer. Tried adding the word tranmission with the search and received the same message. What's up with this search I am trying.

Is there a Web page for the DTT products ?.

Leave out the word "My". Try "DTT Transmission" or "DTT Upgrades" or whatever else with DTT and you will get a ton of info.
