Call me crazy, but with all of the photos out now of folks converting Mega-Cabs to Long Beds, has anyone ever tried to convert a standard SRW short bed to a standard SRW long bed?

It seems like you could use factory parts: fuel lines; drive shaft, etc. You'd obviously have to weld on the frame, but I am fairly certain that if done correctly, it could be done without loss of structural strength.

I'd be looking for a recommendation in SoCal...

In the good ol' days you could do it with ease. these frames are hydroformed (not sure if that is the right word) and you shouldn,t be welding on the frame especially as much as you would have to do.

get out the checkbook and start calling the custom limo companies down there... if they can do 50 foot long hummers, bronco,f series, pt cruisers, hell hondas... Im sure a ram could be attempted... .

um... lets see. . I imagine somewhere around 30 thousand will do it... ( I bet Im pretty close)

of course. . thats what my truck cost... with a jake brake

I can just see it at the dealer... "you want us to warranty what?"

I remember seeing a site around here of a company that does the short bed to long bed conversion. It cost around 5-6K for them to do it. I can't remember what the name of the company is right now. They were located in Texas.

Yeah, the company has a website called megacablongbed.com. I figured it can't be any more expensive than the megacab conversion right, and it's not a dually. It's probably not worth it for six grand, but for say $3,500, it is sure cheaper than buying a new truck. I think that the welding issue can be overcome given that there are plenty of freaky-long custom limos around here.

I don't think I can get an '07 with all of the custom stuff I've done without spending another $15,000 when you include the cost of the truck, and my 2004 only has 26,000 miles...

I guess I'm odd that I would like to take a quad long bed and put a reg cab on it and make a LONGER bed for the back end.
