I converted my 99 to 02 OEM disc. I replaced the parking brake cables from the rears to the link under the drivers door. However, I can't get enough adjustment for them to hold. I purchased the cable from the parking mechanism to the link under the truck, but the end is different on the one that goes into the mechanism itself. How can I get my PB to work?

E-brake on 01. 5 and 02 is a cable operated drum brake sys. You have two adj. points, one is the cables and the other is a starwheel in the drum that can be adj. with a brakespoon. I would adj. the shoes on the drum first. These brakes aren`t real strong on steep grades with a loaded trailer. It doesn`t take too many times of forgetting they are on and driving off to wear them out and yes a 5. 9 will take off with them on in a heart beat.

I have adjusted in both places. Shoes do look good, but once I put truck in drive(only) the wheels still move. The 99 primary(one from inside the truck to intermediate cable under the drivers door) is longer than the 02. I thought I would just replace the cable, but the end that goes to the mechanism is different. The 02 is on top and 99 on the bottom. Any thoughts?

Thanks guys

Joey,
The E-brake will not hold your truck in gear. Check my mods. in my signature, I can let out the clutch on a boat ramp with 10,000 to 15,000 lbs. behind me with the truck in 1st and E-brake on with foot off the gas pedal and she will walk up the ramp. That is why Dodge calls it a parking brake. Try parking on a good incline apply brake with truck in neutral and see if it holds.
Good Luck Capt Phil

JTruelove,

Sorry, I can't help you with your E-brake issue. I would like to see you start another thread on your disc brake conversion. Thank you.

Ericbu12 did this a while back. He has pictures in his reader rigs pics.

Here's the thread he started with links:

I have the same conversion kit, just have not started on it yet.

Capt. Phil yes that did work. I used the 99 mechanism and front cable then connected to the 02 rear cables. Now I can take the other parts back. Thanks again.
