Radiator drain cock

The truck is a '99 QCLB, 47RE, w/274k miles. While waiting for more parts to arrive for a transmission rebuild and wanting to avoid all the smoke outside currently I figured now would be an opportune time to stay inside and vac test the valve body and install some parts from Sonnax. While removing the plate that covers the 3-4 shift, TCC apply and timing valves on the lower body, the spring and plug for the apply valve got away from me. I found the plug right away because it didn't leave the container I had all of this in (I do that to minimize the risk of this kind of thing happening) and I thought I saw where the spring went but I haven't found it so far.

I contacted Sonnax to ask if the spring was something that they offered but it isn't and they didn't know of anyone that does, they suggested taking one from another valve body if I can't find this one. Obviously I'm not too thrilled with the notion of buying a valve body for a spring, so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where else I might find a replacement spring?

At some point, somebody created a spec for that spring and somebody supplied it so I'm hoping that if I can find the specs for it that a replacement can be found.

For anyone with the ATSG 47RE manual it is item 364 shown in figure 212 on page 119. In the FSM its shown on 21-288 (1685 in PDF) in figure 72.

Can try Goerend (563) 778-2719 maybe they have a spare. I know they take back alot of cores maybe they have a stash of springs they dont have a need from a really trashed VBs. They have a tech support guy who works remote so might have to leave a message and wait a call back.

I would suggest Cascade Trransmission Parts but I think the owner has had some health issues and replies are tough with them if its not a stock part with a number, they might have it just cant find it. Worth a shot if you look them up.

Also I noticed a lot.of these rebuild kits don't always come with new snap rings and retainer rings, there have been a few post recently with broken large snap rings on the clutch drums, Im going to do those snap rings as well on mine as a precaution. Also I trashed a $3.19 bushing for the oil pump, that cost me a few days, always the little stuff on these things.

Thanks for the suggestions! I sent an email to Goerend and will soon with Cascade. I noticed the same thing you mentioned regarding rings in some of the kits and also made sure to order replacements for all instead of just what was broken.

I spent a couple hours today moving cabinets and such in the garage looking for that spring with no luck. I'm beginning to suspect that it managed to go through the opening to the attic in which case that thing is as good as gone in the insulation.

Figured I should post an update to close this out. After checking with 16 places, I couldn't come up with just the spring or a spec for it so I bought a used valve body that I could take the spring from so I can finish up the transmission.

Of course now you'll find the spring.... In a drawer of your tool box or on top of a shop light... And finding it won't happen till you're back on line. "Oh I hate when that happens!"
