Converter drainback valve mod

I fell prey to what I thought was a sound modification to make. The thought behind the mod is to remove the check ball, spring and restrictor to allow transmission fluid to flow without restriction thus lowering fluid temperature. The only drawback I found while researching this mod was I would need to put the truck in neutral prior to putting it in gear to refill the converter with fluid. No problem as I do not just get in, start it, and drop it into gear. I attempted to drill out and remove the check ball, spring and restrictor in the converter drain back valve. This was an epic fail. I knew the drain back valve was made of brass so I took a hand grinding stone and knocked off the sharp edges of a couple drill bits so that I could drill the brass without having the bit grab the brass. Not so much. So, now I have a question. Has anyone ever tried replacing that piece of transmission line with a piece of 1/2" diameter transmission hose? Using double worm gear clamps on each end of the hose should preclude any leaks. Just wondering if anyone has ever done this.

I have not done it but since there is low pressure in the cooler lines it will work just fine

DTT had a line extension available at one time. Might email them and ask. Chris

No, they use the 96 (or such) line that has the port and a braided line extension. Might have to get both as the 96 line might be shorter than just the check valve length. DTT modifies their valve body to circulate fluid in park also.

But having the temp probe port in the line is a really good place to watch what is happening to ones transmission temps.

It does not hurt to add a bit of a flare to the line ends so there is no risk of the line blowing off should something restrict the flow and the pressure goes up.

Folks, Thank you very much for the feedback! I did not see a down side to the hose but I knew there are very smart people out here in TDR who would point me in the right direction if I was "off". Thank you for taking the time to respond.
