Ok I just bought a 99 Xcab long box 4x4 with an auto, Been reading alot on auto upgrades. My question is why doesn't anyone run an auto with 100% lockup? What is the reason for the difference in lockup percent? The truck has 101000 on it and I'm looking at changing converters and valve body. The truck was owned by a woman and I can't find a sign of a brake controler ever being in it so I don't think it has been worked hard or bomded. I am woundering because I am looking at putting a box on it.

Some aftermarket converters apparently unlock under accelleration so the TC Clutch won't degrade under heat. In that case you are running unlocked again.

That's not the case with ATS however. It locks up at whatever speed you dial in from about 20 on up and it stays locked no matter how much pedal you give it.

I've had an ATS Trans. for about 2 years and I am very impressed with it.

I think you are a worse cheerleader for ATS than I am for DTT.

You don't seem to miss a plug option. :D#ad

SEmerson you are probably right! Ha! Lets see if I can make it all the way though this post without mentioning A... . uh... . the builder of my Trans.

Well, I began to shop for an aftermarket transmission in the spring of 2001. My truck had about 90,000 miles on it, and the TC clutch was starting to slip. I didn't want it to die on a trip and leave me stranded so I started to do some research. This was before I joined the website, I was only reading the TDR magazine then. So I looked at some advertisments and picked one and thought... that one sounds good. Then at some point I joined the website and learned that the one I picked had a really bad reputation here. So cancel that plan. Anyway in the Fall of 2001 A... Uh... I mean my transmission builder joined the website and I liked what they had to say, and liked the idea of their TC. So I try to keep people informed about A... uh... . the builder of my trans. There! I did it! I didn't mention ATS once!:)

Ok here I go

I bought a new 01. After adding a ez and blue box I could slip my trans. So I called the builder of my trans. I had learned of him on TDR. I told him my problem and that I couldn't afford a trans right now. He suggested a vb as a band aid for now. It worked great. I even added injectors after. Then I bought my 97. It was totally stock with 146k on it. After a short time adding parts I was able to fry my stock trans. This time I got the full trans and converter with a billet input. I love it. But now at 97k on my 01 it is time for a full trans in it. This will happen soon. I have called my trans builder many times to ask questions. Sometimes not even trans related. He has always taken the time to help me. So I will stick with him.

Hay I did it too. I never mentioned DTT.

I would say both DTT and ATS are are better that most anyone needs. If I didn't get a DTT I would get a ATS.

Maybe we can start a support group. :-{}

If you start out in lock up from a dead start , the lock up cluthes will kill your engine. You have to start out in fuild coupling.

I know a few members who need to join up.

Read lots and go with who ever you feel comfortable with.

Since you are in Washington the obvious choice for you would be DTT. I say this because you are close to the DTT shop and there great customer service, not because I belive he has a better transmission system.

Cheers

MPalachuk,

If & when you've got the $4k to replace your stock trans and are in the Seattle (Everett) area, shoot me a PM and you can try my DTT on for size.
