I have the trailer tow mirrors and I love them other than them darn convex mirrors,I was looking to see how or if a feller could trade them for a plain mirror, all I could see for dis-assembly was a rubber plug on the back side. Is there a screw in there or what?also can DC sell me a pair of plain mirrors? thanks Kevin

Whitmore,

I dunno anything about the '01 mirrors, but you might check with a glass shop. One of the first places I went when I bought my '95 was to the glass shop. They replaced the right side mirror with a flat one for time and materials, $15. Just knocked the convex one out and cut a flat one which was glued in the mirror head. It still looks like a factory job after having the truck six years.

I just went from my flatbed w/west coast style mirrors to the pickup and can't stand that pass. side mirror. Been thinking the same thing.

Joe G. - Are your mirrors heated? I would do something similar in a minute, but have assumed that the heating portion of the mirror would be a problem. Anyone have info. ? Thanks.

Not heated on a '95. I would still talk to a glass shop that does automotive stuff. They should know what to do with heated mirrors.

Whitmore... . I but if you mention you have so NEW towing mirrors to trade for the older 98+ non-towing (and w/o the convex mirror) you would have lots of takers. You could even gain electric control and heat if you choose to hook it up.

I switched my 96 to the newer style power/electric mirors. My 2001 govt. ride has the towing mirrors. I like the non-towing mirrors much better. Even when towing!

I just put my power, heated mirrors in a box in my basement. I put the "elephant ears" on yesterday.

Dave, FYI, if you mean the 3pt mounted mirrors like on the 3500's you can get heated mirror heads for them from awdirect.com.

QRTRHRS:

I had the stock power, heated mirrors on mine. I replaced them with the optional flip up tow mirrors that I should have ordered on the truck in the first place. They cost me $205. They would have cost me $0. as an option when I ordered the truck. They're black, and they mount in the same exact spot as the standard mirrors. You can get them on either the 2500 or 3500, but I'm not sure about the 1/2 tons. I think they just came out with them for the 2001 model year, although maybe the 2000s could get them - I'm not sure. I think the ones you're referring to are the older, chrome mirrors.

Dave,

Oh', okay, I got it now. I had not heard the term "elephant ears" before. Makes sense now. Yeah, I have the good old chrome jobs but they work for me.

I ordered my new truck with the towing mirrors, and just got back from a 400 mile trip towing our travel trailer. I love them. Since our current trailer is only 7'4" wide, I don't even bother to flip them out. I really like being able to see the rear tires of the trailer on the convex part of the mirrors when I go around a corner. I'm #ad

Whitmore,

The "rubber plug" may be nothing more than a bumper.

There is at least one large machine screw that is exposed when the mirror is removed from the truck—it's in amongst the three studs that attach the mirror to the truck. I don't know what removing the screw would do—as I recall it looked as though it would start the disassembly of the breakaway spring mechanism. After that ???

I love my convex mirrors on the "elephant ears". I don't see how they are making you dizzy, but I guess everyone has their own opinion. Just don't look at them #ad
I like the mirrors because you can actually use them to see around the vehicle, not like on a car.
