Well i made the leap and called up Bryan from DPP and orderd up a Red cool hose and the PSM kit. All i can say is that WOW what an easy mod to the air box. i know i could have saved a few bucks and "home depot" it, but it took a total of 15 min to do. simple and effective. also when i added the New Red hosei took out the silencer ring... ... ... i kept trying to pry the snap ring out of a grove... ... ... ... no grove... ... ... . wish i figures that out earlier. on the bottom end of the hose for th PSM i added one of the wifes old stockings to keep little stuff out. cant wait to try all this out!

P. S. and if anyone wants a MPC eliminator pipe for a good price, let me know!

well after my test drive i did notice a few things this mornin. First, taking out the silencer ring did make a big diffrence in sound. even the wife noticed. second, with the PSM mod, i droped 50 in egt's and cool down time droped about 1 min. thats great!

The Cool 'Blue' Hose and the PSM mod were the first things I did to my truck when new. I really liked the change, lowered my EGT's and a little mpg gain as well.

Since then I have added the Ice Box Intake, even better breathing and better or should I say lower EGT's. Fuel mileage pretty much stayed the same as with the PSM.

You WILL like it overall I'm sure. I considered taking out the silencer ring, left it in place.

I bought the cool hose in black, and did the psm style intake mod in DIY fashion. I like it a lot. I do notice more dust in the cool hose, but not bad. At any rate, the air intake set up with a muffler delete kit helped my spool up and egt noticeably. I get 20-21 mpg on the highway at 69mph, so I think that set up is working well. I left the silencer in place to date, since I thought it seemed to help with airflow into the turbo. I may be wrong, and am contemplating removing it to get more whistle. Enjoy the mods, I believe in intake and exhaust on these trucks first.

PSM and Cool Hose

We have found that the PSM Intake and the Cool Hose are a great combination for lowering egt's and increasing mpg and throttle response. I have no doubt that running these mods along with a Smarty Jr and Aeroturbine muffler will produce 22+mpg on even the most finicky 3rd gen truck. You guys with 6. 7's are still stuck with somewhere below 16, sorry :)

I got my Cool Black Hose, PSM Cold Air kit, and a new BD panel filter from Bryan at Diesel Power Products (thanks Bryan - excellent service, BTW). I read all the directions and went REAL slow and still finished the install in about an hour.

Mileage around town went from 15. 8 to about 17 mpg on a quick / short hand calc. So, since I drive about 150 miles every day, I should pay for my kit in about 86 days with diesel at $4. 60 / gal. After that, I'm makin' money...

Excellent parts, outstanding service, easy install -- what's not to like? Thanks again to Bryan Howell and Diesel Power Products

I am another happy DPP customer. I did the muffler delete, the the PSM mod, Cool Black Hose, Amsoil EAA Air Filter, and a TAG. Not sure if the TAG does anything, but it is in there and doesn't seem to be hurting anything. Overall it did everything is was supposed to do, lower EGT's in real road conditions, and help with spool up. It did both and still looks stock, which is cool if it ever had to go to the dealer for engine work. Scotty

I did about the same thing, even used the black hose to keep it looking as stock as possible. Sealed both intake snorkels very well so that ALL of the intake air is coming from the outside. Just haven't tried the TAG yet, because it is "up in the air" if it really improves spoolup or not.

Have tried several different setups, including some expensive ones and wish I had just done the PSM with the Amsoil in the beginning. My passenger & I can hardly detect a difference in in-cab intake noise also, like almost no change. Of course the silencer ring went back in the turbo.

One thing I consistantly notice is shutdown time is quick (I have this little routine of idling down the street, turn the corner and continue to coast up the driveway and shut it off as soon as hitting the driveway since the neighbor's bedroom window is next to the driveway). Have come in for this same "landing" for years and I can usually tell which intake is working best by how far I need to coast until it shows 300*. With the BHAF it needed a longer coast. With the PSM/Amsoil/Silencer Ring in combo, it's dropping through 300 when Im turning the corner and darn near down to 275 at shut down. The ONLY other air filter that did that was a giant cone-shaped AFE PG7 filter used BHAF style with a heat shield. Also just idling, its hard to keep the heat in the motor as it always wants to drop to 275 or less.

I understand there are people that are not sold on the outside air concept, and thats fine. First is it truly all outside air, or is some leaking in from under the hood, mine is totally sealed, all outside air, with a slight ram air effect from the bottom of the windshield pressure zone.

Also, with the a/c on or off, egt's don't seem to be effected much, and cool down time is as good or better than anything else I've tried.

Yep, sure like the stock appearance also. :-laf

that is one thing i noticed right away was very low idel EGT's. even in traffic by the time i leave the light, Egt's were down to 265, on colder days i have seen lower, wow.
