This old dog was parked outside. We were told it was originally military. It was sold, and when it was shipped back it was dropped in the harbor during unloading. The buyer reneged, and this recovery company was told they could have the truck for pulling it out.
Well, as my luck goes, we got there and there were a couple large groups that booked in, so they were more or less "closed", though the web site made no mention. The gal in the gift shop called the curator, Doug, and he came and spoke to us, and gave us headphones for a self guided tour. We wandered around taking it all in, and Doug then Jim would periodically check in on us. We then snuck into the training side which was closed, but we snooped around a few minutes looking at some new stuff and an Anthem cab and sleeper sitting on the floor for easy viewing. When we went back to the desk to turn our headsets in we ran into Chuck, who had finished guiding his tours and was very interesting to talk to
He had retired from the fleet service group and knew his stuff. That was a lucky stroke for us. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would gladly go back again.
