This fall I found that my coolant was only good to -15, so I deciced to change it. Being I work on Mercedes-Benz's I have extra coolant laying around. So I flushed out the old green coolant and put in the Benz coolant. Since I did that I noticed that my temp guage "swing" isn't happening anymore. Has anyone heard of this before? I'm going to change out the T-stat anyway, after last weekend (playing in the snow with a locked up left rear wheel) when the temp guage hit about 215, now I can't get the truck to warm up, it takes about 25-30 min to get heat and it's only 30 degrees out, we haven't even begun to get cold. I'm going to change out the T-stat, I suspect it died with the heat, I'm wondering if I should buy the "correct" coolant or is the benz, anti corrosive, good for aluminum coolant, OK?

Josh

Sorry for the long post.....

I'll bet your only problem is when the engine got hot the rubber ring around the stat came off and is now stuck in it keeping it from closing. Either replace the stat or just pull the rubber ring off, toss it and reuse the old stat. I've found it makes no difference with or without the ring.
