When the manual says 7 gallons. does that include the overflow container filled to the full mark?

I pulled out a tad ,more then 5 gallons easily with just having the truck on an angle down my driveway. I emptied 2 gallons though the thermostat and immediately it was clear water coming back out the radiator. all should be accounted for. let it drip till it stopped before re-filling.

I put in 4 gallons of new stuff. 1 gallon of water + 50/50 mix of coolant and water (all distilled) in the overfill. I figure I have 1 gallon of old stuff within the heater core and I pulled out one gallon of old stuff in the over fill

So, I put in 6 gallons of fluid total at 75% coolant..... a bit much. Assuming the 7 totals includes the overfill. If it does not include the overfill, then I"m right on in the money at just under 60%.

So which is it?

Just out of curiosity, what kind of coolant did you use?

I need to do 2 trucks here in the next month or so.

Thanks, I think I may go that route also since it's easy to pick up at Napa.

Sorry to get your thread off topic.

I bought my '05 off the lot ( zero mileage ) in Aug. of that year. Coolant was at FULL on reservoir. 1st heater use, the level on the reservoir registered 2/3 full ( on a blue factory tic mark ) and has remained there for 70K miles. Maybe that helps.

A couple weeks back we did a cam on my truck and flushed the coolant system. We drained it completly and then flushed the system with straight water. I used the Fleetguard 300,000 mile treatment (spendy!) and it took about 6 gallons. Although I am pretty sure that I did not have all the water out. I believe 7 gallons is including the overflow bottle.
