Hey guys; I'm at the 5 year mark, time to change the coolant in my 2005, but I have a couple of questions first.

I only have 20K miles on the clock and my coolant still looks like new (along with the rest of the truck as well) could I avoid changing it and instead maybe just add some anti-corrosion solution assuming that that was the only thing consumed in the system to date?

If changing is required, then should I just drain the radiator and block, get some of the pink stuff along with some distilled water and go for it?

Are there any critical things I should be watching for in this procedure, or tips or tricks I should use?

Thanks, Michael.

if you do change it, run only distilled water. and flush several times with distilled water and run it like that for a few hrs... as long it is not cold outside... then put in approved coolant for our trucks..... that can be alot of things and people will have opinons on all of them... . make sure your water comes out clear before you fill up with the real stuff..... good luck

With only 20K on it, my first inclination would be to say top it off and let it go. However, I'm going to guess that you drive very short distances and/or the truck sits a lot. So, it might not be a bad idea to flush it to clean out any sediment that might be there from sitting. Either way, make sure that you use a HOAT coolant and not just "pink stuff", regardless of what it says on jug. There have been many discussions on here about coolant and coolant chemistry. Not all coolants are the same and different types of coolant don't mix because of the chemistry. Zerex G-05 is a HOAT coolant that a lot of us use (if you don't want to get the MOPAR stuff from the dealer) along with distilled water.

Timothy Long I know this thread is old but I bought the zerex G-05 there is a disclaimer that says it is OAT technology and not approved by ford and Chrysler for HOAT/G-05 applications. Products using OAT chemistry may be damaging to cooling systems that specify HOAT chemistry based on OEM recommendations. What say you

G-05 IS the factory fill, and is HOAT. . Something doesn't make sense.

My two cents, I have 122000 on my 2003 and have not yet done A-F. I will do it this year but have never had a problem with it so far. I personally do not believe in the year part of the maintenance plan. Mine looks good now but will change it along with hoses and belt.

I just put in the amzoil antifreeze about $110. 00. Last for 7 yr or 350,000 miles. Did it when i put MR BOBS hoses on
