What's a good time or mileage to replace all the coolant hoses prophylactically? I at 175K on the 01 now and I'm beginning to wonder about changing them out. I am thinking of going with Mr. Bob's hoses.

I changed to Mr. Bob on the 95 at 10 years, went with a complete hose kit including turbo boost boots. No problems or regrets. However I doubt that the jump to the premium silicon hoses can really be justified if you crunch the numbers, afterall you got 9 or 10 years out of the original hoses. Just changing out with good quality Gates or Goodyear every 10 years is cheaper and likely good enough.

I changed mine out around 125kish or so. I was quite suprised how some of them felt especially the lower rad hose. It was really mushy. They all looked good and most were still in decent shape. As mentioned above you may come out $wise just changing them out with stock type hoses however with Mr Bobs kit you get all the charge air boots/hoses as well which when you start buying those (stock ones) the $ difference is much less if not coming out ahead depending on where you get them. rubber can start to fall apart after 5+ years... so I like to be safe than sorry and at 5-7 years of over 50K I start looking at changing them out with a Tstate and flush and refill.

I believe all those little elbow hoses here and there on the Cummins engine are factory silicon. I replaced all mine on the 1st gen and they were silicon as well as the OEM silicon heater hoses. Thats why the 4 or 5 I bought from Cummins were over $100. Its also why they outlast the upper and lower big hoses. I also bought new OEM identical constant tension spring clamps from McMaster Carr. 200,000 miles and the originals were buldging out too much. The large radiator hoses can be just Goodyear of whatever. The little ones along the engine suffer much more heat and should be silicon.

Change my top & bottom radiator hose a few months ago, at 90,000 ml. They still looked good, did antifreeze at the same time. For the price of the hoses, it is cheaper than changing them out on the side of road.
