Coolant Leak 2006 5.9

My 2006 is developing a small (for now) coolant leak at the front passenger side of the engine block. It appears that there is at least one, small diameter, freeze plug on the front face of the block, just above the oil pan mounting surface and between the timing cover and the air conditioning compressor cast in mounting block.



Before I pull this apart, can anybody tell me how many and what size freeze plugs are in this location?



The head gasket and the thermostat housing are located above this area and do not appear to be leaking.

My truck had the same problem. It's not a hard fix. The problem lies with the clamps by the turbo. Look at the turbo from the pax side of the truck. Now expand your scan to the hose/clamps that are closer to the drivers side. Those two clamps are the problem. My truck was under warranty so I took it to them and presto bingo... fixed.

Your positive its not coming out of the weep hole in the waterpump?

My leak was the same, it was comming from the water pump weep hole, running down the front passenger side of engine. Replace pump, all is good.

I had a small coolant leak on my 06. It was coming from a short piece of tubing at the back of the engine on the passenger side. Two clamps... . tightened them down (had the coolant changed) and all is good.

Hey Guys - Thanks for the replies!

Definitely not the small coolant hose by the "hot section" of the turbo - fixed that one 30-40 thou ago

I'll get my "good" flashlight and check the water pump weep hole. Didn't think of that possibility - (my 99 still has original water pump @ 190 thousand plus miles- probably should change that one out too)

My leak was the same as Scooby's. Tightened 2 hose clamps & all is well.

Hey Guys - Thanks for the replies!

I'll get my "good" flashlight and check the water pump weep hole.

Very difficult to see. I could not see the hole on my pump until I removed it. And the hole comes out at the flange base, then there is a milling relief to connect the hole to the edge of the flange. If you have a very small mirror and look all along the bottom of the flange you might see the relief or the fluid ?

WOW!! The wrenches they used on all these "06 hoses must have be mis-calibrated or something. Mine leaked at about 10k at one of the small hoses near the right rear. 50k now and OK.

Interested on how many miles you have on the 2006, for the water pump to be weaping?



My 2003 had just over 100 K then the cold drip showed up when parked overnight.
