Open the hood today to wash the engine compartment and there was gooky brown stuff everywhere. the radiator was low so I cleaned the mess and topped off the radiator. It looks like the leak may be coming from the bolt on the idler pully on the top of the motor is this possible? tomorrow i will pressure test the system.

Gooky brown? That doesn't sound like antifreeze. Unless it's been a while since it was last changed. Don't think it would be coming out of the top idler pulley. Could be the water pump leaking enough to where the belt is slinging it. That or the top hose is leaking near the t-stat housing.

WKruger is right, there's no reason for it to leak from the idler. Check the water pump and the upper radiator hose.

If the antifreeze is brown, you may have oil leaking into the coolant.

I just discovered that mine was leaking from the top bolt on the idler above the fan too. The bolt must enter the water passages. Mine was dripping and the fan was throwing it around the engine compartment and it cooked on the hood. In a related issue I just replaced the waterpump (152k) and it was so loose the impeller blades were hitting the block. To my surprise there was no weep hole. To get back on subject I just pulled the bolt, gooped it with RTV and reinstalled. I'll check this weekend to see if it is still leaking.
