With the heat this weekend I've been running the A/C a lot. I noticed the needle on the temp gauge is nudging onto the 200F line. Without A/C on it stays a couple needle widths to the left. It's been 95-99 the last couple days. Anyone else notice this?



I hope I don't have the problems I did on my 2001. When it was 110 last summer it had trouble keeping cool without a load, could barely go 70mph without the coolant hitting 205-210F! A new thermostat and coolant didn't help at all on the '01.

But seriously Vaughn mine always runs just to the left of 200. I was able to get it to go to about 1/4 inch above 200 for a short time when I was pulling the TT up the west summit of Snoqualmie pass w/ A/C running last Friday. Outside temps were about 88. It quickly dropped down below 200 when I dumped it into 5th. I doubt that was more than about 210 - 215 which is not anything dangerous IMO.

I had a similar problem. Down here on the gulf coast we're already hitting triple digit afternoon temperatures. I started running 210-220 and the a/c started warming up when pulling my 3800# gooseneck trailer. I just got it back from the dealer today and they had to replace the fan clutch. One of my compadres had exactly the same thing done to his '03 last month, and his was acting up with no load on the truck.
 
Trip to Phx was in the 100's most of the time and pulling the TT (aboput 8k) never saw above a few needle widths to the right of 200 (never made it to the outside of the last 0). Ran the a/c while shopping and when gots back still not bad temps, which I would have expected above 200 by quite a bit. Sew, do we have a problem or knot?

Got a suggestion for your coolant problems, Redline Water Wetter. I don't sell the stuff so my recommendation comes from years of use, I swear by it and use it in all my cars/Jeeps, and will use it in my Dodge once I get it. One caveat, my use has been in gas, not diesel engines, but the theory behind the product should make it just as effective in diesel engines, maybe more so given the higher heat of the diesel.



Redline Water Wetter has some patented chemicals that decrease the surface tension and thereby increase the "slickness" of water. This means you get many times fewer tiny little microscopic air bubbles throughout your cooling system. Which means that you effectively increase the efficiency of your cooling system by increasing the effective surface area of your cooling system and increasing the flow of the "slicker" water/coolant over the now larger surface area. Thus your entire system is more efficent. The water wetter has anti-corosion properties, so you flush your cooling system and use a 80-20 Water/Coolant mixture plus Redline Water Wetter (or any mixture up to 100% water plus water wetter, depending on your climate, the less coolant the better cooling. ) I have always seen a marked improvement in all cars I have used it in, two 5. 0L Mustangs, a 1. 8L Turbo New Beetle, a 4. 2L I-6 Jeep CJ-7. Expect 10%-25% reduction in coolant tempatures in hot weather. I have used the product in Alabama and Hawaii since 1996, so I have tested it in some damn hot and humid weather.



Give it a try and let me know what you think, I love the stuff, and like I said I don't sell or have any interest in the company. Redline Water Wetter (from the makers of Redlines Automotive Synthetic Oils. ):cool:

For those that don't know... there are two versions of this stuff

gas and diesel... liquid in bottle... gas is hot pink color and diesel is a dark brown/black color [might be blue. . per a post below, they might have changed it cause it was ugly LOL ]

Lawdog1 is right! That stuff really works! It was the only way I could keep my old 82 toyota with a 351 from overheating. One bottle of that stuff and I never had a problem again. Never tried it in a diesel before... Maybe I will put some in my room mates 90 Dorf 7. 3 diesel... . we will see if it works.
 
He does want to put a Cummins in it... . I think he has motor envy... :D Maybe this will help him do it a little sooner.
 
Coolant compatability??

Anyone know if there would be any compatability issues with water wetter and the coolant being used in the new engine? I haven't looked to see what is called for in our engines but it looks like the extended life coolant or dex-cool. Guess I should get off my butt and look in the manual. Will water wetter work with coolants other than ethylene glycol?
