Hey, just got a question about the coolant in my 2010 dodge cummins. For the past couple days on the farm we have been going around testing the coolant in all of the diesel tractors for DCA levels. From how my uncle explains it, DCA is an acid that will eat through the piston walls if the content is too high or too low in the coolant. So we check all the tractors in the spring and fall and treat them as nessesary. Does anyone know if this acid is present in the coolant of diesel pickups? My dad and uncles arent sure and I cant find any info on it, even for checking tractor DCA levels.

Not sure about the DCA term. But, there is what is known as electrolsys (sp. ) and errosion that can absolutely destroy a cooling system. Coolant and SCA's help to protect your cooling system from electrolsys ans errosion.

If you have a good volt/ohm meter, you can actually measure electrolsys in your coolant.

Well when we check for DCA levels its basically a ph strip with the colors that you match up on a chart. If it reads to low or to high then we have to add an equalizer to the coolant. My uncle said they had never even heard of this DCA stuff until they had problems with one of the tractors a few years ago. All of the tractors still run green coolant, maybe its something about the old style green coolant that they quit using in cars and trucks? I dont know.
