Can you run "Cat ELC (Extended Life Coolant) with Embitterment aka CAT EC-1 premix in a 2006 5. 9?

Thanks in advance

Steve

You certainly can. Are you flushing and refilling or just topping off??

Also remember you need a refractometer to check freeze protection using the CAT ELC. Floating ball testers will not be accurate.

Mike.

Yes you can, but the caution is the OEM HOAT does NOT play well with others (even if the other is compatiable with everything). In order to run the ELC, or any non-HOAT, you need to do a very thorough flush. I would flush it at least 5 times with distilled water before adding the ELC.

Is "azwiz" in Arizona??? If so, maybe freeze protection is not such a worry depending on where in the state you are... .

If you do want freeze protection then you will need at least a gallon of 100% ELC to offset the water left in the block after a flush. Then use the pre-mix after that. That's what I did with the '97 last fall and it came out to -20 below.

Search radiator flush on here under user AH64ID. He did an excellent write up a while back on flushing.

Edit... there he is already.....

Mike.

OP... I run Cat ELC as well... You do not flush with water for Cat ELC, purchase the Cat flush, it will make your cooling system safe for Cat ELC in one treatment. If you cant find the p/n, I can get it for ya.

probably... its specifically used for flushing other types of coolant out of an existing system to prep it for ELC...

I don't have the master CAT parts book (One Safe Source) loaded on this computer, I'll check tomorrow as I have it on the work laptop.

Mike.

Mike, I think you are right, it seems like its listed in One Unsafe Source...
Ok, I went and looked. I was WRONG!!. . To change from another type of anitfreeze to ELC, you first use either 6V-4511 or 4C-4611 Cleaner. Once you perform this cleaning process, you DO flush with water.
The cleaning process is an important step in eliminating cross contamination. I fully expected to wipe out the marginal H2O pump seal when I converted mine several years ago, but to date, no issues arised from cleaning/converting.
