Does the Cummins experience coolant cavitation which eventually bores tiny holes in the jacket walls and into the cylinders... like the Navistar diesels do? I had a Ford diesel and knew of two other guys with fords who had to go to battle with ford just to get shortblocks put in their trucks due to hydraulic lock in the back two cylinders.

I now have a Cummins powered Dodge and wondered if there has been anything like this happen to the Cummins.

carrk,
The Cummins engine does not have the cavitation problem the powerstroke does. The cummins is not a sleeved block. It is a solid block design. Just change the coolant out every couple of years as the coolant looses its cooling, heat removal and anti corrosion characteristics.

I agree the Cummins is not a sleeved block, but this alone simply does not me caviation does not occur.

It can and does still occur. Although it is still important to minimize this problem, it is not as crucial as it is on a sleeved engine.
