I think our CTD engines run at 195 degrees, would it have any positive effect if a 180 degree thermostat were installed, the 195 has to be a smog issue, not relating to having the engine run well . Also does anyone even make a 180 thermostat for the Cummins?.
 
Takes HEAT to burn fuel effeciently. On cooler days it will run somewhat cooler or too cold with a 180 degree and probably a loss of mpg. On hot days it will still run as warm as it does now. Leave it alone!
 
I agree with DP. You're thinking too much like a gasser. The hotter it runs, the better fuel economy you'll get.

Cummins Part #3967195 180 degree

What I found when I run it. Was it caused my timing to advance and with the TST it was to much
