I have been excellant about letting the turbo cool to egt of 325* pre turbo before turning motor off. Is this important to do at all times or only after a large hill climb or load or pulling trailer, What is the general consesus on this proceedure ED

necessary

I believe this is necessary. I do not shut my trucik down until the temp reaches at least 300*. This way the turbo has plenty of cool down time. The other choice is to get a cool down timer.

yep I let it cool to 300 every time too, only exception is the off chance that I run through a drive through at mc'd or wendys.

The owner's manual calls for a cool down time between five and one minute depending on speed and load just prior to stop. A member once reported that he monitored the time and EGT and the prescribed times corresponded with 300*.

I"ve always allowed time to cool to 300* but now only 400* on the ISB6. 7 with watercooled turbo.

Have you ever watched the egt when the ambient temp is 115? You may find you can never shutdown it 300 is the number you are using. Just a thought for you to ponder!!! ;)

Some owners drive them like a gasser and simply shut them down when they stop. Many probably get away with it, particularly with the ISB6. 7 watercooled turbos.

I always wait for cool down.

I am not say not to cool down the turbo!!! I used to us time but now use temperature and here in the summer I set 350 or 375. Winter use 300. with modern day oils I think this is workable and will not have oil coke in the turbo. IMO

I always wait until at least 300*.

I have found that if I downshift in the neighborhood into 2nd after towing and do about 15mph by the time I stop in the drive and look at the pyro its at 225*, even if its 95* out.

If I am not there I just bump the idle up to 1100 for a 10-30 seconds and once I kick out of high idle it drops below 300 very quick.

I would like to get a post turbo pyro just for shutdown.
