How much "spin" should a cooling fan clutch have @ cool/cold engine temps? The service manual suggests replacement if the fan freewheels 3 revolutions when spun by hand. Nothing is mentioned about minimal spin. My fan may only freewheel 1/8th of a revolution. Is this too tight? Seems this may be pulling alot of air when temps outside have been so cold lately. Also... A few years back I saw an aftermarket fan clutch that can be manually operated via an electric clutch. This would be great for "precooling" the coolant in the radiator just before a long pull on a mountain grade, and could allow the fan to freewheel when its cold and idling. Any info would be appreciated!

Sounds about right. But cold temp test is not as critical as warm if it free wheels after shutdown while it is at full operating temps, its a dead one. The best indicator is to look at the center section and see if any oil is leaking out and collecting dirt then it is starting to die.
