Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Cooling problem

I bought a 98 a few months ago, temp gauge has always read right at 190 degrees. when pulling a 5 ton load the other weekend on the interstate, the temp went up to to around 220. If I pulled over or slowed down to 60 mph, it would drop to 190 in about a minute. Was told radiator is probibly plugged, but looked it over and didnt see much in it, sprayed it with cleaner and flushed with hose. I also replaced viscous drive fan hub and flushed radiator, when pulling a load it still heats up if outside temp is over 75 degrees, below this and i can run 75MPH all day with a load and the temp gauge stays at 190. Any other ideas?

Mine will hit 220 with my 10k TT on grades. We have a few long 6% grades on the way to the "cool" country. On flat ground it'll run 200 with the TT. This is with outside temps at 100+/-.

I wouldn't worry about 220°. Your engine will run better and last longer at the higher temp (believe it or not). If you EGT is fine, and the cooling system isn't causing higher temps than 220, I'd say you are just fine-- just keep an eye on it.
