I have 10 ply Michelins with 15K that are great road/towing tires. No visible wear, etc. I now have property on a hill in E. TN, but can't even back up on level, damp grass, much less climb a muddy hill. A neighbor in the hollow has a 2WD 2500 gasser and I witnessed him climb my hill in deep, sloppy mud. I could barely get to where the incline started. He has Cooper Discoverer STT tires that he swears by. (He calls my Michelins "city slicker tires". Any experience/comments out there to share? I tow a 10K 5er.

Thanks in advance

For off road and a Erating in the 265's that seems neat but they would be noisy.

I have a tire called wild spirit DTX I bought at Big-O and the tire came from a place called wholesale tire. I bought 285/75-16 which have a wt rating of 3305 single at 65 and they are a nice traction tire and sing a little but not bad... .

had two sets

of the STT tires, good traction but they wear out in about 15k miles or less. i also found that they were not a very tough tire, as i had one split the side wall (not heavy loads) and two or three other ones that got punctured. i am presently running a Mastercraft mud terrian which is made by cooper with a little different rubber compund and tread pattern (so the tire dealer, my neighbor says) but the mastercrafts seems to have just as good of traction and are wearing a little longer. :)

Steve... .

I have on the Cooper Discoverer ST's not the STT's and love them. They now have about 25,000 miles on them and are not even half worn yet. I am running the 265/75R16 load range E(stock replacement size) and keep the pressures adjusted and rotate them regularly. One thing to keep in mind about excessive or extreme wearing tires is load rating. When most got to a off-road style such as this and a larger size than stock load ranges are not where they need to be to accomadate the weight of the truck and will cause excessive wear.

Now,does this mean not run them, certainly not, its your truck, but keep in mind the consequences of your decision and understand the faster wear pattern. Once going to a agressive style tread it is always better in my opinion to do some research and find a set load rated for the truck or capable of handling the weights(example-some D rated tires do have a proper weight handling ability, but, will not be 10ply). Another thing to keep in mind is towing and those lighter weighted tires and the softer sidewalls which will produce more side sway and heat to build faster.

You hear more people complaining of excessive wear and once you look the tires over they are not rated for the truck. Your truck, your decision, look the specs over well, listen to the masses and stand by your decision. Hope this helps... ... . Andy
