Hey guys about to get some new wheels and tires and the guy at the discount tire place is telling me that these are the only tires that will work for my truck because they are load range E. Anyone know if this is true im seeing Pirelli Scorpians on there for $10 less per tire are those better? Anyone have experience with these tires? Thanks guys. by the way here they are http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/findTireDetail. do?rc=MNMINT&yr=1996&cf=false&c=1&sw=false&pc=27449&rf=true&rcz=55112&mk=DODGE&cs=265&dVeh=dVeh&vid=005485&rd=16&ar=75&ct=

I haven't used these tires, but you CAN use D range tires on your truck depending on the loads you carry. If you normally run empty or with only light loads, D range will work fine, though some tires work a little better than others. I'm running Bridgestone Revo's - new last fall - in 275 size, D range, and they are working quite nicely so far.

There are several brands that have E range in that size besides Cooper. There's nothing wrong with Cooper, but there other options. Shop around.

Do you have any cupping issues? My Yokohamas like to cup pretty easily.

Technically, you are not supposed to put anything below what your truck requires per D. O. T. regulations. Some tire shops won't do it, some will, it is a liability suit waiting to happen. If a shop puts a lower rated tire on and you go out and pull max load and have a blow out, wiping out yourself and anyone around you, who do you think is going to be held liable? Not you if a lawyer gets a hold of it or there is an investigation! When I bought my truck, the previous owner had put C's on it, rode great, but not good for loads. I am running 265/75-16 E Revo's and love them, I won't buy anything else.

Last october I had the original General's with 52,000 miles on them on my 04. 5dually. In the first 15,000 miles it seemed as if they wore out 60/70 percent of the tread and then the went on and on and kept running. The tires looked like heck but seem to run forever on not much tread. So I went to a place in

Anchorage and got a set of load E range Coopers for my dually. After 15,000 miles this winter with a trip down the Alcan in october and back here to Anchorage this last week the tires do not show any visible wear. They handled the winter weather of Canada very well as I was pulling a cargo trailer with my ATV and other things through a lot of ice covered and very sloppy roads. My only concern when I got the tires was they were narrower than the original Generals. I am very happy with these tires and they performed well. Also when in Arizona I hauled my 15k 5er around and they did a good job there also.

My original Michlin tires lasted 41k and I rotate and am annal about checking tire pressure. I replaced them with my first set of coopers at 41k . At 104k I put on another set of coopers. and the first set still looked ok and the wear bars were not showing yet. ( the tech at the tire store said I still had 5 or 6 k left in thee old ones ) I was going on the road and wanted the peace of mind that only a new set of tires can give you. :-laf . So don't be afraid of the coopers.

I'm running 265 70 17 LR E Cooper SST and have had no problems. They are actually quiter than the Maxxis Buckshots they replaced.

Not to be a flamer but your tire guy is an idiot. Second, I don't like Coopers because they wear out to fast. I use TOYO hyperradials, recapped. You can use Bridgestones also. Load range D's only restrict you to carrying lighter loads. If you wanted to, you can use load range C's. Just no carrying big loads.

TBowler brings up good points. It's all personal responsibility and awareness.

DPellegrin, if your tires are cupping, how are your shocks. That is the first sign of worn shocks.

I've had good luck with Coopers. I've got the tires you are looking at. They are very good even in bad weather. Have driven on ice, snow, heavy rain. They work very well. Got over 50K off my first set. Most of my driving, 99% is on pavement. Alot of off-pavement wear is tread design.

As to what load range, I have to agree strongly with BTowler. Use nothing less than what the OEM used. You can always air them down per DC's 3d Gen supplement when empty. My rear is at 40 PSI. There was a similar 2d Gen supplemental in my 99 that would be the equivalent to this 2004, except for 16 inch rims.

Warning!

A month ago the tread seperated on my new Cooper Discoverer ST tires. I have to replace a rear quarter panel now. They were properly inflated with about a 1000 miles on them. They have had a recall before but mine were not covered in the recall.

To the guys running Coopers with good reviews, what model were you running? Anybody running the Cooper S/T-C's? I just put a set of these on this year, and I have to admit I am a little worried about tread separation issues after reading some of the posts recently on here about Coopers in general. I found a recall for ST's that ended in '05 I believe and was under the impression they had things resolved. I couldn't find anything negative about the S/T-C's.

I just bought a set of Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires for my dually and love them. They're not noisy (not that I can tell w/ the sound of the 24v anyway), and they give a good ride. I paid $1390. 00 for 7 (the spare was the original Goodyear Wrangler HP and shot) The Silent Armor Wranglers come in regular or with ProGrade, which is an extra layer of Kevlar built in. I got the regular ones, because that's all they had in stock, and I didn't feel like waiting, but the price difference was $1 per tire.

My shocks are actually really good they were cupping worse with monroe shocks. I put Bilstiens on and it has slowed down a bit I was rotating them every 6000 miles. The guy at the tire place said for the weight of my truck I should be rotating them every 3000 miles. I believe the tires on there now have a load range of C.

my truck had Pirelli Scorpians on the back when i got it but they were completely bald so i really can't comment other then they held the back end of the truck off the ground, i've been running kumho kl-78's for about 12k miles and like them so far, E rated and fairly cheep, not sure what they retail for as i have a wholesale account with tirerack $78 + s/h each for 235/85/16s had a few decent loads on them the biggest being 3100# of slate and cement, couldn't get to a air compressor so i had to ride with 40-45 psi and they didn't sag too bad

ATR model, like the link shows. Have about 10K on them, mostly interstate miles, including about 10% over 80, which is supposedly verboten on LTs. BTW, I kept an eye on the temps when I stopped for fuel, so I know they never overheated.

Ditch the C's and go back to E's if you plan on hauling anything!

i'VE HAD TWO SETS OF COOPER DISCOVERS BUT CANT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT MODEL BUT MY FIRST SET STILL HAD TREAD AT 65000 MILES WHEN I CHANGED THEM. THATS ALL i BUY NOW LOAD RANGE E COOPERS. I DRIVE THROUGH A LOT OF THORNY PASTURES AND NEVER GET FLATS ON THEM UNLESS THEY ARE WORE OUT.

My first set of Coopers were Discoverer A/T second set are Discoverer H/T. The first set ,A/T (all terain) lasted 61k

the second set H/T (Hyway tread) are going strong and have only about 3/32 wear in 16k. all were 265 75 R16 load range E. ( Maybe I've been lucky ,but I've never had a problem with a Cooper tire and I've had alot of them over the last 40 years. )
