For those of you aware of Coopers excellent "C-120" truck tire I just recently learned they've 'updated' it to a non-steel belted sidewall design. The new design is the more popular poly-cord sidewall like all tires regardless of weight rating.
Yes the old-design tires are extremely heavy and act like flywheels, but when aired up to max, you can work them long, but you can't work'em hard!! The very stiff sidewall allows for wonderfull stability while loaded heavy. Those of you who feel your tires feel 'soft' and 'under inflated' when loaded to max at max air pressure look into C-120s and dismiss tire worries. Brakes are another story! Six C-120s rolling along at 65mph do exhibit quite the inertia issue. It's not unsafe, just a consideration. It can be eliminated by using a quality aluminum wheel.
Solving a problem you didn't know you had,
Ian!
PS: I'm in Alaska and won't be able to respond to any questions, if there are any, until 20 July.
