Two dead, 9 wounded in gunfire near NY's Empire State Building

Article said 2 police shot 16 rounds at 8ft away from gunman and wounded 9 unacceptable totally unacceptable, would be better off THORWING THE GUN'S AT HIM.

Its probably a little different when somebody is shooting at you from 8' away too!

When your heart rate hits 170 BPM, you loose your fine motor skills!
GregH

Ya right!!!!!!!!!! Been there done that ONE to many times, you might want to sell that to someone that hasn't been in that kind of scenario before. 8ft and 16 shots!!!!! AND THERE WAS 2 COP'S!!!!!!!!!! THATS DEPLORABLE. Lucky they didn't shoot each other!! IT WAS ONLY 8 FT!!

I think those cops must of had a large soda first. The gov. must stay on track and get those big sugar drinks outlawed.

I've never been in that situation but putting each round where I want it is important enough to think about. Let alone killing an innocent person.

Wow, Nasty is that your leg? Did you get shot by the Police sometime in the past? Does past contact with the Police somehow affect your perception of what happened in New York?

I don't like the sound of what happen in New York. I don't like hearing that the cops involved missed their target and hit bystanders, but I wasn't there and I don't know the circumstances. I have taught firearms full time in the past and I can tell you from training and experience, that many people fall apart under stress. I've witnessed some of the most solid and respected people I know totally fall apart while shooting under pressure. I've witnessed people unable to unass their firearms from a holster due to stress being inflicted upon them. I've witnessed shooters miss a moving target many times even at close range.

Pretty easy to Monday morning quarterback an terrible event that we weren't there to witness.

This just in from CNN: "All nine people injured in Friday's shooting in front of the Empire State Building were wounded by police gunfire, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters Saturday. "

BIGNASTY had the scoop first.

If you look at the video, he wasn't a moving target. More range and combat training time needed. Maybe they could use some of that federal ammo that the weather guys got. Can't shoot weather, like shooting Godzilla.

Ya that is what was left of my leg on #5. It wasn't the Police that shot me if it were from the above scenario I would have still had MY LEG!!! My perception of what happen is just fine in fact I would think from prior experience BETTER THAN YOURS!!. You can TEACH how its supposed to go down and with cardboard cutouts a paper cut is the worst that can happen (unless the above police are doing the shooting). You may in fact have WAY MORE EXPERANCE than I , I dont know But as far as shooting bystanders that is why I took the front hole. I didn't have to worry about anyone I care for being shot unless they didn't follow the ONE SIMPLE RULE that I made them aware of. IF YOU GET IN FRONT OF MY HOLE YOU WILL GET SHOT!!!! very simple and no body GOT SHOT!!!.

On # 1 it was a total surprise that it was going to happen but being a Boy Scout I WAS ALLWAY PREPARED. # 1 lasted for 2 1/2 hours before the game was called and that was fine for me because I was about out of ammo.

On # 2 we were waiting and it didn't last quite as long about an 1 3/4 hours again running short on ammo and getting a little more than what I signed up for I was glad our team called the game.

On # 3 we again were waiting for the fun to begin and when it did I was tired of getting picked on because of being in the front hole. I thought that we were unduly being targeted my ammo loader and I thought because of the body count in front or our hole. It wasn't fair for them to have Mortars and RPG's and have fun from a distance.

On # 4 We had taken a lesson from #3 and prepared a welcome to our camp surprise for them we wanted to show our WARMTH and so we filled bladder fuel tanks with jet fuel and isopropyl alcohol with an impact detonator attached. When the fun began they still didn't play fair with the stand off attitude so when they came to knock on the door we shot the detonator and well at nite with 5000 gal per bag and about 8 bags we didn't have to turn on the outside light to see who was knocking at the door. That party lasted about 10 min. after we turned on the outside light!!!

On # 5 we were eagerly awaiting our guests and they didn't disappoint us again with the stand off attitude and finally came to call. This was by far the biggest party that we were going to have they had brought more party crashers that we had anticipated and were overwhelmed by their P***ed Off nature. 3 hours went buy I had some place along the conga line lost my ammo loader or what was left of him I was out of ammo and only had a shotgun when the people that owned the party pad said let's them them have it we will get another place with a nicer neighborhood. When I was sure that all of OUR PARTY GOERS were being evacuated I thought it was my turn to leave the party. I was running and someone was taking flash photo's and lost my balance I tried to get up and could not. 2 of our other party people grabbed me and tossed me in the evac chopper and we left. Yes we had a designated driver because the adrenaline rush was to much to be flying.

SO YES I HAVE ALSO WITTNESSED LIKE YOU BUT HAVE ALSO EXPERIANCED THE FUN AT THE PARTY. And there were a hell of a lot more party people than 1 and it was darker than the darkest you have ever seen JMO

I kind of think the MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK was a privilege that I earned ?

BIG, I see quite a difference between living in a combat zone and being a Police officer in a big city. I would not down play your experiences for one second. I just dont believe the training received in a PD, with exceptions for longevity on the job, SWAT or Veterans that have become Police officers really prepares a civilian for a firefight, right out of the clear blue sky.

When we lived in a "party zone", we were trained to respond and did! NYC is a potential "party zone" with so many sheep it wonders me that more arent killed when the "wolves" and "sheep dogs" go at it! You certainly have a point, however, I would like to know about the individual officers, their training (or lack of), experience. Spraying the area with rounds is not a good response! Why did they do that? That is my question. Were they surprised/ambushed? Were they in a normally "civilized" part of town? Just alot of questions. IMHO, They should not be allowed back on the street until the questions can be answered and a determination made as to their fitness for the job.

One thing that I have been able to count on at this site is that you and I can disagree and unlike some others STILL REMAINE Friends. So with that said I will have to disagree with your point of view. I was 19 years young when these 5 parties started my primary AFSC (job in the Air Force) was a crew chief. Prior to enlistment I was a punk kid just like the other hundred of thousands that did the samething as I. I went to 6 weeks of Girl Scout camp AKA boot camp and a fast pace tech school supposed to be 16 weeks 15 of us did it in 8. I was a wrench bender not a Marine or Army guy I WORKED ON AIR PLANES. So to say we had training in this is simply not true. As a Marine I hear you are ALL trained as killers even if you are a garbage man a ,what ever you all are. Kind of the samething with the Army (please dont get me on the Army I dont want to fight with any of them). The Air Farce is a WHOLE BUNCH different. We were taught to turn 1 maybe 2 bolts VERY WELL and that is it. So to say that I was trained to fight like this is not true this has been something that I have struggled with from that time. Not that I lost my leg MANY HAVE LOST MORE and 58,242 LOST EVERYTHING. How can a kid think this crap up of how to kill this many and still think he's normal. Normal is a subjective term in my case ask around.

The Police are trained for this I have known many many officers and most I admire these that did this in NY are not on that list. If I were a cop it would be like Vietnam 24/7 and to do it any other way in the times that we live in now is ludacris. I said back a few months ago when someone else shot up a group of people that it only going to get worse with all the economic problems we have people loosing everything house/jobs and then family. And it has gotten worse and for a STUPID TRUCK DRIVER to see this coming and trained officers NOT well they should NOT BE COP'S JMO.

DAMN GREG YOU SHOOT GUN'S IT WAS ONLY 8FT AND 16 SHOTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would it be possible that some of the innocent hit were by bullets that passed thru the perp? I would imagine that the leo were shooting 9mms, but don't know what bullet construction they would be carrying. Just a thought.

I dont know what they were packing but most can carry different weapons. I know lady officers that cant handle a 45 so they opt for 9's or 10's or some other I dont think in my opinion that a human is very hard to put down. Using a 9mm IF YOU CAN SHOOT AND HIT what you are shooting at is plenty. But IMO 45 is the tool of choice if it doesn't stop them at least they will have to run another 5 or so yards that they got pushed back.
